With the 2022 preseason schedule officially underway, are there any NFL games being played today, Friday, Aug. 12? After two excellent matchups last night, what does today’s slate have in store?

NFL games on TV today | Friday, Aug. 12

There are multiple NFL games today, all of which are being played in the evening.

    Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions

    Time: 6 p.m. ET
    TV channel: NFL Network
Live Stream: Paramount+, Vidgo, fuboTV, NFL+

This preseason game is interesting for a number of reasons. Not only are the Detroit Lions must-watch TV right now thanks to their appearance on Hard Knocks, but they have also already said they want to play their starters for at least a quarter in this one.

“I’d like to get our starters some reps in this game, maybe a quarter,” head coach Dan Campbell said. “There again, you just can’t mimic game speed and game intensity. The only way to get ready for a season is to simulate that intensity. But, at the same time, I want to be smart, too.”

Additionally, the Falcons have said they plan on getting their starters some action. So even if this is a preseason game, we will be getting some of our first taste of actual NFL-caliber play.

    Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars

    Time: 7 p.m. ET
    TV channel: Local
    Live Stream: fuboTV, NFL+

The Jacksonville Jaguars looked pretty terrible during their first preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. In their second game, they will be playing the Cleveland Browns, who could potentially be starting Deshaun Watson. Watson’s current suspension does not limit his preseason participation, and according to Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot, Watson could see a couple of series early in this one.

Behind Watson, Jacoby Brissett is set to be the starter in the QB1’s absence. Brissett started 11 games last year with Miami and was adequate. It is unclear how much playing time he will get in this one since he will technically be the Browns’ starter in 2022. The Jaguars did not play Trevor Lawrence last week, and they have shown no indication of whether or not he will see action this time around.

    Arizona Cardinals at Cincinnati Bengals

    Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
    TV channel: Local (NBC12/KPNX)
    Live Stream: fuboTV, NFL+

The Cardinals had what can only be described as a rocky offseason. They lost several key contributors while going back and forth with QB Kyler Murray on his eventual contract. Plus, when the contract was finally agreed to, a unique clause caused even more drama. Meanwhile, the Bengals have kept their core pretty much intact and are looking to make another Super Bowl run.

Neither team has revealed if any starters will be playing in this one, but it is unlikely. Additionally, QB Joe Burrow is still dealing with the impact of an appendectomy, so he is guaranteed not to play.

New York Jets at Philadelphia Eagles

    Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
    TV channel: WCBS/NBC10
    Live Stream: fuboTV, NFL+

This game is a battle between two of the trendiest teams of the offseason. The chatter around the Jets is that QB Zach Wilson has looked good in training camp, and there is hope that head coach Robert Saleh will also take a step forward. New York had an impressive draft class, adding talent like Ahmad Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson II.

Philadelphia combined an excellent draft with some impressive offseason moves, like trading for wide receiver A.J. Brown. Expectations are high for Jalen Hurts as he has been given all the tools he will need to be successful.

Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers

    Time: 8:30 p.m. ET
    TV channel: NFL Network
Live Stream: Paramount+, Vidgo, fuboTV, NFL+

The second game on NFL Network this Friday is a playoff rematch from last year as the Green Bay Packers travel to San Francisco. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has already said that 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love will start, and the team will take the opportunity to see what they have in the young QB.

Meanwhile, Trey Lance will start for the 49ers but will probably not be in the game for long. This means San Francisco will play a combination of Nate Sudfeld and Brock Purdy.
