What To Look Forward to in Friday’s Matchups
With this being the final week of the preseason, the biggest storylines will be teams and fans getting their last look at their squads before the season officially begins. For many teams playing tonight, the quarterback position is the most intriguing.
While the Chiefs, Cowboys, and Eagles have proven starters in Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, and Jalen Hurts, the other five teams bring much more uncertainty at quarterback.
The Chicago Bears are entering Year 2 with 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, who showed promise and looked sharp in their Week 2 preseason matchup against the Bills. The Vikings, a fellow NFC North team, also had a 2024 first-round quarterback, JJ McCarthy, who impressed when he played in their preseason opener against the Texans.

The Falcons are another team that selected a quarterback in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, taking Michael Penix. Unlike Chicago and Minnesota, Atlanta hasn’t played Penix at all in the preseason, so fans will have to wait until Week 1 to see the second-year quarterback in action.
Finally, and perhaps most intriguing, fans will get their last look at the 2025 NFL Draft No. 1 overall pick, Cam Ward, before the regular season when he faces the Vikings. Ward looked strong in his first game against the Buccaneers but struggled in Week 2, completing just two of seven pass attempts.
Friday will be the last chance for all eight of these teams to work out any kinks before the start of meaningful football. It’s a critical point in the NFL calendar, as training camp begins to pass the torch to the regular season.
