Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is officially in the books, and it delivered on the drama. With games stretching from Thursday to Monday, the opening slate featured ferocious comebacks and razor-thin margins, especially in primetime, where all four contests were decided by six points or less. Now, with the dust settled on some incredible finishes, the league resets for another round of action in just a few days.
When Does Week 2 of the 2025 NFL Season Start?
The next game on the NFL schedule is set for Thursday, September 11. Week 2 will kick off at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the Green Bay Packers will host the Washington Commanders. Both teams are entering the matchup with a 1-0 record.
The Packers are coming off a 27-13 victory over the Detroit Lions and will play their second straight game at home. Meanwhile, the Commanders will face their first road test of the year after easily defeating the New York Giants 21-6.
Other Week 1 highlights included the reigning Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens defeating the Micah Parsons-less Dallas Cowboys, 24-20. In a surprising start, the Kansas City Chiefs opened their season 0-1 for the first time since 2023, falling to the Los Angeles Chargers 27-21 in a game played in Brazil.

Elsewhere, head coach Zac Taylor led the Cincinnati Bengals to their first 1-0 start since 2021. Baker Mayfield guided the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a last-second win over the Atlanta Falcons, a team that had beaten them twice in 2024. In Miami, Daniel Jones impressed as the Miami Dolphins didn’t score until the fourth quarter. Geno Smith and the Las Vegas Raiders managed to spoil Mike Vrabel’s debut as head coach of the New England Patriots.
In a couple of revenge games, Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields both put up impressive numbers against their former teams. Ultimately, the four-time NFL MVP got the edge, thanks to a 60-yard field goal, as his four touchdown passes allowed the Pittsburgh Steelers to start the season 1-0. For the Tennessee Titans, Cam Ward’s NFL debut ended with the team failing to score a touchdown, despite forcing four turnovers. To cap off the week, a 10-point fourth quarter helped an injury-ridden San Francisco 49ers squad get past the Seattle Seahawks.
What Should Fans Expect in Week 2?
Prime Video will be the exclusive home for the Commanders versus Packers showdown. It is the first game of Week 2 featuring two 1-0 teams, a distinction shared by only four matchups on the schedule. This week also offers plenty of teams a chance to secure their first win of the season, including the Chiefs. In a highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch, Kansas City will host the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Minnesota Vikings return to primetime to face an Atlanta Falcons team that is no longer led by Kirk Cousins. The NFL’s schedule makers clearly tried to set up a game against his former team, though Michael Penix Jr.’s stellar Week 1 performance left no debate about the Falcons’ new quarterback.
For the first time this season, two games will be played on Monday night. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will head to Houston to take on the Texans, while the Chargers will play in Las Vegas for a special 10:00 p.m. ET start time against the Raiders.
