Russell Wilson Spoke With Giants, Will Meet With Steelers
Quarterback Russell Wilson is visiting Friday, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and spoke with the New York Giants on Thursday as the free-agent-to-be QB seeks his next NFL team, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Wilson is meeting with teams ahead of his release by the Denver Broncos at the start of the league year on Wednesday. Sources told Schefter this week that the Broncos had permitted Wilson to immediately begin speaking and meeting with other teams.
League sources described Wilson’s session with the Giants as an “exploratory meeting.” Wilson is expected to meet with other teams, including possibly the Las Vegas Raiders, sources said.
The Giants have said they expect to add a quarterback this offseason, whether it be in free agency or the draft. Daniel Jones is rehabbing a torn ACL, and backup Tyrod Taylor is set to become a free agent.
Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield Reportedly ‘Working Hard’ on Contract
A new report indicates the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who just re-signed receiver Mike Evans, are making progress on bringing back the quarterback who led them to the NFL playoffs in 2023.
Mayfield is coming off a career-best season and will be one of the most sought-after quarterbacks if he hits free agency. But the Bucs intend to not let that happen, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
“When I last checked in with sources, Mayfield and the Bucs were working hard to strike a deal, especially after they locked up WR Mike Evans,” Russini wrote in a piece published Wednesday.
Russini reported something similar on Monday after Tampa and Evans reached an agreement on a new deal.
“What’s next for Tampa? Trying to sign Baker Mayfield,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “The Bucs have started negotiations to keep him and making every effort to get it done. Sources have shared the QB will not take a hometown discount to stay.”
Saquon Barkley Warned Against Signing With the Eagles
After a six-year career with the Giants, Barkley is set to hit the free agent market, with plenty of major news organizations citing Philadelphia as a potential destination in which both sides “have interest.”
Tiki Barber, the leading rusher in Giants history, was a guest on WFAN radio in New York earlier this week, and he was asked about Barkley possibly signing with the Eagles in free agency.

“The fact that Saquon would even contemplate going to play for THAT team in Philadelphia is insulting to his Giants history and legacy,” Barber said on Thursday on his afternoon show.
The Eagles and Barkley have mutual interest, according to the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy, adding that the Cowboys could be interested as well.
