When the Los Angeles Chargers take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on Sunday, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will also be facing off against his younger brother, Patrick Herbert, a tight end for the Jaguars.
While the two brothers have shared the same field in football before, this game represents their first potential NFL encounter against one another.
Fans React to Justin Herbert’s Brother Patrick Playing for Jaguars
Patrick reflected on it on Friday, saying, “It’s awesome. I think we kinda take it for granted sometimes looking at him and being like, ‘oh he’s been in the league for 5-6 years’ or whatever. I think it’s a big accomplishment. That’s so cool.”
Patrick noted that he and Justin had likely never played on opposite teams in an organized setting, aside from perhaps some fifth-grade basketball.

Though Patrick is unlikely to be active for Sunday’s game, having spent the season on Jacksonville’s practice squad. The siblings attended Sheldon High School in Eugene, Oregon, where both starred on the school’s teams. Justin, after receiving limited FBS offers after a junior year broken leg, chose to play at the University of Oregon.
Patrick, a four-star tight end recruit, joined Oregon in 2019, overlapping with Justin’s senior season. While the two shared the field in practice and during games, they never connected on a reception.
Patrick finished his Oregon career with 31 receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns over six seasons, making six starts. After going undrafted in the 2025 NFL draft, he signed with the Jaguars as a free agent and joined the practice squad after roster cuts in August.
