‘Ugly A** Game’ — NFL Fans Rip Seahawks-Texans for Being ‘One of the Worst’ Contests in Recent Memory

Thanks to their deal with ESPN, the NFL has gradually added more games to its Monday Night Football broadcast, with the occasional doubleheader becoming increasingly commonplace during the year. Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season brought one such instance, as the Houston Texans facing off against the Seattle Seahawks was scheduled to follow the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions.

After the Lions blew out the Buccaneers in commanding fashion, fans would have been hoping for a more exciting matchup late in the night. Technically, they got their wish, as the final score read 27-19 in favour of the Seahawks. However, the overwhelming emotion coming out of the game was one of exhaustion, or even downright anger in some cases.

Fans Turn Sour on Seahawks-Texans After Fourth Quarter Miscues

Through three quarters, it seemed like a relatively regular football game as Seattle had a comfortable 27-12 lead going into the final period. That’s when things took a dramatic turn for the worse.

The first four drives of the period combined for 31 total yards, with four penalties and a fumble bringing the game to a complete halt. The next drive for the Seahawks, may have been the worst offender, with two penalties and an interception immediately ending the series.

Then came an absurd drive from the Texans. Getting the ball to the Seattle one-yard line on second down, they had a golden opportunity to get back into the game. However, over the next 40 seconds, they chose to utilize three consecutive passing plays.

With three-straight incompletions, their drive was stopped short of a score, with the Seahawks immediately handing them the ball by going three and out. Houston was finally able to score on the next possession, but failed to make proper use of the new kickoff rules.

Still, they had an opportunity to get the ball back from Seattle as they faced a 3rd-and-3 situation. But an unnecessary roughness penalty gave them the first down and brought the game to a close.

An exhausting finish in the fourth quarter, it left a sour taste in every fan’s mouth, with their anger shining through on social media.

One fan couldn’t contain his disappointment, as he lamented, “That Texans Seahawks game was one of the worst games of NFL football I have seen in the long time. Absolutely atrocious play calling from Houston especially. Thanks for making me upset.”

However, the blame did not just fall one way. For some, the fault was equally on the Seahawks as well. As one fan pointed out, “Not sure I’ve ever seen a team try so hard to lose as the Seahawks tonight. Very fortunate the Texans were so overmatched. Seattle gets to rest up and hopefully play a smarter game after the bye.”

The inability to execute on the offensive end, though, had to fall more heavily on Houston. As Greg Auman of Fox Sports pointed out, “Seahawks beat the Texans 27-19 on Monday despite having 12 penalties and a minus-3 turnover margin. Since 1993, NFL teams with that many flags and that bad a turnover margin were 2-75-1 — both previous wins were by a single point.”

That kind of a result would not have been possible if the Texans did not butcher their chances by making wrong decisions seemingly every other play.

Another fan expressed his criticism, posting: “Ugly a**game …. Offence needs clean up but Texans defence elite we still put 27 on them but the #seahawks 5-2 Buy week I’m happy 6:30 Am lol don’t care A great weekend as a sports fan!!!”

Another fan then dropped the hammer with his verdict.

“I think it’s safe to say but that was without question the worst 1 score game I’ve ever watched. Every second of Seahawks Texans made me want to burn my eyeballs out.”

It would be impossible to judge the quality of a game objectively. But the clash between the Texans and the Seahawks was a particularly brutal showing from two teams that are solid across the board, at least on paper.
