The CBS NFL analyst is currently on indefinite leave from his role at the network after being arrested in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in July. Romo released a statement apologizing for the incident and revealing that debilitating pain from several back surgeries has led him to an overreliance on alcohol and pain medication.

Romo spent his entire 14-year NFL career in Dallas, earning four Pro Bowl nods and one Second-team All-Pro selection. The former quarterback joined CBS Sports a few months after his retirement in 2017, replacing Phil Simms as the lead color analyst for the NFL telecasts.
Working alongside Jim Nantz, Romo quickly became one of the most well-respected analysts on television. He signed a mammoth 10-year, $180 million contract extension with CBS in 2020 amid interest from ESPN. The former Cowboys star still has four years remaining on his contract.
In 2022, the network’s executives staged an intervention to get to the root of Romo’s declining analysis, putting him at odds with CBS.
Romo will miss the start of the NFL season as ex-Houston Texans star J.J. Watt fills in for him alongside play-by-play icon Jim Nantz. Watt will make his debut during the Green Bay Packers’ Week 1 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
