The NFL has always prided itself on its parity. Out of the four major North American sports, football has always had the fiercest level of competition, with virtually every team getting a legitimate shot in due time. However, even with the distribution of talent and hype around the league, not every fan is left satisfied.
With the NFL schedule releasing in bits and pieces over the course of the week, a Christmas Day game between Divisional rivals the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs was made official. But fans weren’t in support of one of those teams having a primetime game. No brownie points for guessing which team that was.
Fans Begrudge NFL Schedule for Kansas City Chiefs Christmas Game
Since their dynastic run began with Patrick Mahomes taking over as the starter, the Chiefs have had a stranglehold on the AFC in an unprecedented manner. Never missing the AFC Championship Game in the timespan, their season has ended in Overtime of the penultimate game of the season at the earliest.
But a 40-22 demolition at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles seemed like an end to that era of dominance. However, the hype from the league continues to center around them. Since Mahomes joined the squad, the Chiefs have been in just two Christmas Day games.
However, because it was the last two years back-to-back, fans seem to be getting tired of watching KC. With a third consecutive draw in the 2025 season, their frustration boiled over on social media.
Some still believe in the Chiefs’ conspiracy theory, claiming that “The chiefs got their request,” implying that the team could get whatever they wanted from the commissioner, Roger Goodell.

Fans had complaints about the same team getting a shot three years in a row, a far cry from the parity-driven league the NFL has always marketed itself as. “Of course it’s KC, why not give a game to someone else on Christmas for once.”

Some even wanted the league to step in and put an end to it. “The chiefs trying to make Christmas their thing is annoying AF and the league shouldn’t allow it. The cowboys and lions already have a competitive advantage on Thanksgivings. At the very least all the teams that want to have a repeat game on a holiday should be on the road every other season.”

But for others, an even bigger problem wasn’t just the fact that Mahomes & Co. had a Christmas Day game but that it was scheduled to be a home encounter as well.

Some, however, weren’t fully against the idea, especially if it meant that Bo Nix, after an incredible rookie season where he led the Denver Broncos to their first playoff appearance in nearly a decade, was getting a prime slot. “BO NIX GETS THE SPOTLIGHT,” wrote one excited fan.

After splitting their games the last two years, the Chiefs will look to improve their score on the national holiday under Mahomes. With an all-time record of 3-2, they already have a decent record on the date, whereas the Broncos remain 2-2 on Christmas Day.
The last time the Broncos had a game on Christmas was in 2022. However, head coach Sean Payton will be hoping that this year can net his team a different result as they lost 51-14 to the Los Angeles Rams, albeit under a different QB-HC combo.
