Analysts React As League Replay Assist System Makes Wrong Call In Texans-Chiefs Game

In the first half, replay assistance was used to determine whether the offensive Texans player had reached the first-down line.

The initial call made by the referees was that the player was short of the line to gain. Then, the replay assist was used, and it overturned the ref’s ruling, saying the runner did reach the first-down marker. However, the Chiefs ultimately challenged, and it was ruled that the replay assistant’s judgment was incorrect. Below is a look at the play:

“Replay assist just went in and changed the original ruling that the player was short. It said that he reached the line to gain. The #Chiefs then threw challenge flag and it was ruled that replay assist was INCORRECT. This league,” NFL reporter Arye Pulli said.

An influx of social media NFL analysts commented on the incident, with the general sentiment being that it is unacceptable for replay assist to make the wrong call.

Chiefs reported Pete Sweeney said, “Replay assist, incorrect? Lol what are we doing here?”

“Pat McAfee Show” co-host Boston Connor posted, “Replay assist just got that completely wrong. That can’t happen.”

Ari Meirov posted, “Replay assist being wrong defeats the entire purpose of replay assist.” Replay assist is supposed to streamline things, but it made things more complicated in this sense.

Albert Breer said, “So the replay assist got a replay assist?”

NFL insider Jesse Palmer said, “Got to always double check AI.”

At halftime, the Texans lead the Chiefs 10-0.
