With $231 million guaranteed, the Dallas Cowboys have no choice but to trust star quarterback Dak Prescott. The team made its decision as Prescott will be making $240 million over the next four years.
This is a Cowboys team with a brand-new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, who has more experience on the defensive side of the ball. Regardless, it’s now or never for Prescott, as the results have yet to be there.
Kimberly Martin Puts Pressure on Dak Prescott
Prescott was the latest to join that list in a world where quarterbacks like Brock Purdy and Jordan Love are making well over $200 million.
He sees himself as a top quarterback in the league, and the Cowboys value him as such. Having been with the Cowboys since 2016, it only made sense for Prescott to remain on the team as he looks to do some damage in the playoffs.
However, analyst Kimberly Martin did not hold back on the quarterback as she wanted him to show he was worth the contract during the June 12 edition of ESPN’s “Get Up” show.
“I don’t care about the pressure on Caleb Williams or any other quarterback, if you are going to be the highest paid QB in the NFL, then you need to show that you are worth that money,” Martin said.
“The conversation around Dak Prescott has been for years whether he is that guy or can be that guy, whether Jerry should or shouldn’t pay him, Jerry has paid him. It took him a long time, but he’s paid him. Now, Dak has to be healthy, stay healthy, and actually get them to the promise land.”
Prescott’s numbers were down while he only played eight games last season. His completion percentage fell from 69.5 to 64.7, and he threw one fewer interception in eight games than in 17 the year prior. Having thrown 304 more passes in 2023 than in 2024, it was alarming to see his touchdown-interception ratio fall from 36-9 to 11-8.
Pressure has always been a problem in his NFL career, as Prescott has been sacked 60 times in his last 25 games. That’s not a significant number on a QB who has had injury issues in the past, but it’s an area the Cowboys made sure to fix when they drafted Tyler Booker at No. 12.
With CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert, and Jake Ferguson, Prescott will once again lead the charge with a mostly familiar receiving core. Pickens comes over from Pittsburgh as the former Steelers receiver racked up 174 receptions for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns in his three-year stint there. While both Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders are new to the RB room, the Cowboys’ offense looks to make an impact in 2025.
