NFL analysts Mike Florio and Chris Simms discussed the New York Giants and their quarterback situation on a March 24 episode of NBC’s “Pro Football Talk.” The two weighed in on Jameis Winston’s contract and the team’s strategy as it looks ahead.

‘Everything Is Still on the Table’ as Giants Plot Next QB Move
In the episode, the Giants’ quarterback search sparked plenty of debate. As the team looks to fill its quarterback void, Florio emphasized that adding another veteran is still possible.
“They’re still in play for Russell Wilson. So it could be Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito on the depth chart in New York by the time it’s all said and done,” Florio said. “And it’s still not impossible that they’ll sign Aaron Rodgers. It’s unlikely at this point, I’m told, but it’s not impossible.”
Florio clarified that he previously assumed the Giants were done chasing veteran quarterbacks. But after discussing Wilson’s chances of signing in New York, he offered a new theory.
“If they would add a Russell Wilson, so going into the draft they’ve got Wilson, and Winston, and DeVito, you’re not gonna be thinking the Giants are looking at a quarterback,” he said. “Which means teams are gonna be less inclined to try to jump the Giants in round two, if that’s their target range for a quarterback.”
Florio’s idea? That Winston’s deal — and possibly adding Wilson or Rodgers—could be part of a smoke screen. If other teams don’t think the Giants are targeting a QB, they may not feel the need to trade up in the draft. That could leave New York in a better spot to grab their guy in Round 2.
It’s a bit of a stretch, bordering on conspiracy theory, but the logic is there. In today’s NFL, anything’s on the table.
What Are the New York Giants’ Options?
New York needs its next franchise quarterback. The problem is, so do the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns — both of whom hold higher picks in the upcoming draft. That could leave the Giants leaning on a veteran in 2025, with two starting-caliber free agents still on the board.
Given their draft position, Wilson might be the easier option to sign — if the Giants are feeling urgency, which they probably should be. But it appears they’re waiting on Rodgers, who hasn’t met with them yet. He did meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers, though, and according to Albert Breer, folks in Pittsburgh think he’ll also sit down with the Giants.
“Steelers folks seemed to think coming out of their meeting that he’d probably do a similar day with the Giants to get a vibe for their building and what head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen have built,” Breer reported.
If the Giants miss out on Rodgers, they’ll need to land Wilson or hope a top QB falls to them in the draft. But with the Browns also meeting with Wilson, New York could be left scrambling if both veterans are off the board.
Right now, it feels like the calm before the storm — and a lot hinges on Rodgers’ next move.
