Coming into Week 3, no one would have expected the 0-2 Chicago Bears to embarrass the 1-1 Dallas Cowboys. Despite competing with the Philadelphia Eagles and putting up 40 points in a win last week, Dallas has had no answers for the Bears’ offense. While they may have been lifeless in the first few weeks, ex-head coach Matt Eberflus brought something out of the Bears that the Cowboys never expected.
Skip Bayless Calls for the Dallas Cowboys to Fire Matt Eberflus
Having coached the Bears from 2022-24, Jerry Jones decided to hire the 14-32 HC as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator. Although Eberflus had extensive experience in Dallas, he was never the team’s DC. He began his first tenure with the squad in 2011 as the linebackers coach, a position he held through the 2015 season. From there, he was also the passing game coordinator for the next two seasons.
While Eberflus had DC experience in Indianapolis from 2018-21, he went to the Bears for his first head coaching gig. Things didn’t go according to plan, though, and the Bears were in a lose-lose situation no matter who was in charge. His .304 winning percentage left the team no choice but to go in a different direction, as Eberflus went back to his roots.
No wonder they fired Eberflus. Maybe we should, too.

At the time of writing, the Dallas Cowboys trailed the Chicago Bears 24-14 at halftime. NFL analyst Skip Bayless had seen enough: “No wonder they fired Eberflus. Maybe we should, too.”
The Bears are coming off a game in which they gave up 52 points to the Detroit Lions. They scored just 21 points in that game, having scored 24 the week prior. Eberflus’ Cowboys defense may have given up 37 points last week, though the team’s offense more than made up for it. In Week 3, that proved not to be the case.
Even though the Cowboys lost to the Eagles, 24-20, things seemed to be trending in the right direction. Eberflus held the reigning Super Bowl Champions to a low point total with the entire world watching as the Cowboys and Eagles kicked off the 2025 NFL schedule. Now, that game feels like forever ago.
QB Caleb Williams threw for over 200 first-half yards and three touchdowns in the first half alone, numbers the Bears have never seen out of their 2024 No. 1 overall pick. Most of the team’s yards came through the air, as not a single running back had more than 15 yards. Dallas may only have been down by 10 points, but giving up those type of numbers to one of the league’s worst teams doesn’t bode well for anyone.
