Russell Wilson Shares His Condolences Following Passing of Diogo Jota

On Thursday, July 3, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, were killed in a car crash near Zamora, Spain, as reported by ESPN. Early reports say a blown tire caused the accident.

The news left many people heartbroken, including athletes from around the world. Wilson, who is now the quarterback for the New York Giants, posted a message on social media to show his support for the brothers’ family.

Wilson wrote, “RIP Diogo & André,” in his post. This simple message shows how much he cares about other athletes and their families, even if he did not know them personally. Wilson has built a reputation for strong character throughout his NFL career, which started with the Seattle Seahawks.

Both born in Portugal, Jota was 28 years old, while Silva was 25. Jota had just married Rute Cardoso a few weeks before the crash. Together, they have three children, with their youngest born in 2024.

Jota played for Liverpool, one of England’s most famous and storied soccer clubs. In the 2024–25 season, “L.F.C.” won the Premier League title. Jota made 26 appearances, scored six goals, and provided three assists. Since joining Liverpool in 2020, he also helped the team win the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups.

Meanwhile, Silva played for FC Penafiel in Portugal’s second division, working hard to follow in his brother’s footsteps.

Losing Jota and Silva so suddenly is a reminder that life can change in an instant. Their deaths have affected not just their families but also their teammates, fans, and people who love soccer around the world.

Going into his 14th season, Wilson is expected to start for the Giants this season. The team also has Jameis Winston, Jaxson Dart, and Tommy DeVito on the depth chart. Wilson’s journey shows how athletes can face many changes in their careers, but his actions off the field show his true character.

The loss of Jota and Silva is being felt across the sports world. Many people are coming together to support their families and honor their memories. From everyone here at PFSN, our thoughts and prayers go out to Jota and Silva’s loved ones.
