‘I’m a Little Worried’ — Yaxel Lendeborg Voices Concern After Draymond Green’s Pointed Reaction to Warriors Rookie’s LeBron James Pitch

Draymond Green heard Yaxel Lendeborg's "pointless" recruiting pitch to LeBron James, and believes the Warriors rookie needs some coaching.

By now, you know that LeBron James is a free agent. While a decision may be coming soon, the 22-time NBA All-Star hasn’t made up his mind yet. His pondering has given Yaxel Lendeborg time to make his recruiting pitch for James to team up with him on the Golden State Warriors.

Yet, even the Warriors rookie acknowledged at the time that he probably wasn’t the best person to sway the 41-year-old basketball icon. His new teammate, Draymond Green, strongly agreed.

Draymond Green Calls Yaxel Lendeborg’s LeBron James Pitch ‘Pointless’

Now that Lendeborg’s pitch, which took place earlier this week, has had time to sink in, others are reacting to it. Of course, that includes Green, who’s never shy to share his input on basketball matters, especially those related to James and Golden State. Simply put, Green believes the Warriors’ first-round pick wasted his breath in recruiting James.

“Is the pitch too weak or too strong? I don’t know. I think the pitch is pointless,” Green said on Thursday’s edition of “The Draymond Green Show.”

“But it’s fine. Training camp is coming soon enough, and you gotta rein the rookie in a little bit, teach him a few things. Training camp is coming soon enough. Yeah, training camp will be here pretty soon. And I think you all know why I’m hinting at training camp. And yeah, it’ll get here soon enough, Yax. Enjoy all your media.”

From the sound of it, Green plans to have some fun with the 23-year-old when competing with him on the floor in the Warriors’ training camp later this year.

As for Lendeborg’s thoughts, he admitted that he was caught off guard upon hearing Green’s plans.

“I got a little nervous,” Lendeborg said, laughing. “I don’t know what he’s talking about, man. He could be hinting at a lot of different things. Hopefully, it’s not the [rookie] hazing. I hope we keep that at a minimum. I hope it’s just like, ‘Yeah, I got you. This is what you should and shouldn’t do.’ So, I’m a little worried, but hopefully everything goes well.”

No one really knows what to expect with a wild card like Green. Plus, if the pitch works and James really does sign with the Warriors (whether Lendeborg’s input was valued or not would be up for debate), then the whole team can have fun with it in training camp. If not, it might be one of those rookie lessons that Lendeborg won’t forget when he’s old and gray.
