Rockets Fan Favorite Steven Adams’ Statement Sends Houston Fans Into Panic Mode

Houston Rockets fans were upset to see a recent social media post from Steven Adams, signaling that he’s likely leaving the team this offseason. After making several key roster upgrades—including acquiring Adams from the Memphis Grizzlies—the Rockets exceeded expectations this season, finishing with the second-best record in the Western Conference.

Although many NBA experts believed the Rockets could take down the Golden State Warriors, Houston was eliminated in a dramatic seven-game series in the first round. In the aftermath of that loss, Adams’ departure appears imminent.

Steven Adams Shares an Emotional Farewell With Rockets Fans

While Adams may not be ranked among the NBA’s elite centers, he’s widely regarded as a fan favorite. Known for his toughness on the court and calm demeanor off it, the New Zealand native has long been seen as a valuable locker room presence.

Though Adams wasn’t a starter for the Rockets this season, his impact was undeniable. Following his heartfelt Instagram post, fans responded with disappointment and emotion. Reactions included: “Every team needs a Steven Adams,” and “This isn’t goodbye, is it?”

In his message, Adams wrote:

“Houston, thank you. The energy, passion, and unwavering support you brought to the arena this year were nothing short of incredible. I hope we represented this city with the pride and resilience that define what it means to be a Houstonian. Going to battle with the brothers was an honor.”

“We fought with grit, heart, and determination—displaying the kind of resilience that goes beyond the court. Proud of the boys and everything we learned together.”

While the Rockets may not want to part ways with Adams, his contract officially expired the moment the team’s season ended. He is now an unrestricted free agent.

Though it’s possible the franchise could re-sign him, the tone of Adams’ Instagram post suggests contract negotiations may not be going well. That opens the door for him to hit the market—and potentially be picked up by another team in need of a reliable veteran center.

Adams likely understands that his time in Houston has come to a close. While the team couldn’t make a deep playoff run, it made major strides and proved itself as a rising power in the Western Conference. The Rockets will surely aim to go further in 2026—but they may have to do it without one of their most respected voices in the locker room.
