Stephen Curry Pays Tribute to Michael Jordan’s Flu Game With Air Jordan Sneakers After Under Armour Split

A new sneaker free agent, Stephen Curry chose to honor Michael Jordan's Flu Game after his viral Under Armour split.

Stephen Curry has taken over the basketball world with his sneaker game. Following his recent split with Under Armour, the Golden State Warriors star has been showing up in multiple kicks, making everyone hold their breath waiting for his next move.

Furthermore, not only has Curry been showing off different brands, but he has also been using them as a way to pay tribute to multiple players and their basketball history. Of course, the 37-year-old didn’t disappoint as he pulled in for the Warriors-Utah Jazz game on Monday.

Stephen Curry Honors Michael Jordan and His Iconic Flu Game vs. the Utah Jazz

During the 1997 NBA Finals, a sick Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to a 90-88 win against the Utah Jazz. Tied 2-2, Jordan willed himself to a 38-point game to give the Bulls a much-needed 3-2 advantage in the series.

Dubbed as the ‘Flu Game,’ Jordan’s sickness and dominant performance immortalized the iconic June 11 game.

Curry, ready to play against the Jazz after ending his Under Armour deal, chose to honor Jordan and his effort by donning the iconic “Flu Game” Air Jordan XIIs as he arrived in Utah.

Previously honoring NBA icons like Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, fans have been eagerly awaiting Curry’s next move as a sneaker free agent. Him aligning his sneaker appearances with teams and respective players is just an added bonus.

Furthermore, Curry also honored Jordan by wearing “Last Shot” Air Jordan XIVs during the warmup. However, the four-time NBA champion switched it out for the actual game, choosing to wear Nike Sabrina 3 as he took the floor.

Curry’s sneaker journey has been a delight for fans, many realizing the Warriors icon was an actual sneakerhead all these years. Fans have appreciated the little details, especially as Curry’s sneaker stock has skyrocketed over the last few days.

Caitlin Clark Played an Unsuspecting Role in Curry’s Broken Under Armour Deal

While Curry admitted his decision with Under Armour was mutual, new reports suggest an issue with sales and the unsuccessful attempt to land Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark.

According to Bloomberg, Curry and Under Armour sought to strike a deal with Clark to join his brand. However, Nike — which eventually landed Clark — had a better offer for the young athlete.

Curry remained neutral on the change, explaining that stepping away from the 12-year partnership was better for everyone.

“The sneaker industry is difficult,” Curry said. “Things change over time, to the point of you give your best effort to create something sustainable, and you know a little disappointing how it turned out. I think it’s the right thing for everybody.”

While reports are leaning towards Nike, Curry’s next sneaker deal is definitely expected to break sales records.
