For the first time in his career, Stephen Curry is a sneaker free agent. He ended his longtime partnership with Under Armour, and it seems WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark played a role in that decision.
How Under Armour and Stephen Curry’s Breakup Was Affected by Caitlin Clark
As Clark gained prominence, several brands entered an arms race to secure a partnership with her. After the dust settled, Nike emerged victorious in signing the Indiana Fever star to a shoe deal. This incident was a turning point in Curry’s relationship with Under Armour.
According to Bloomberg, Curry and the company wanted to strike a deal with Clark to join the Curry brand. However, between Under Armour and Nike, the former’s offer was reportedly lower, which influenced Clark’s choice.
There are no precise figures available regarding what Under Armour offered. What is known is that Clark inked an eight-year deal with Nike worth $28 million. The deal also includes a signature shoe line, which is set to release next year.

This caused a strain between Under Armour and Curry, who felt his former partner was not investing enough in his brand. Ultimately, it led to their breakup, which was announced earlier this month.
Now that Curry is a sneaker free agent, several sports apparel companies are pursuing the Golden State Warriors superstar. He has yet to make an announcement regarding which brand he will join, but he has been seen wearing brands other than Under Armour. So far, he has been spotted wearing Nike, Reebok, and Li-Ning’s Way of Wade line.
Curry, whose breakup with Under Armour is still relatively recent, could still be exploring his options. There is no clear indication yet as to which way he is leaning, as he has likely received offers from several brands already.
Under Armour and Curry still have one collaboration left, which is set to release next year. The Curry 13, planned to hit shelves in February 2026, will be the last set of Curry Brand sneakers made in collaboration with his former partner.
As for the Curry Brand, it will reportedly continue independently. There is still a possibility that it will become part of whichever sports apparel company Curry joins next.
Curry remains not only a highly sought-after sneaker free agent but also a standout performer on the court, averaging 28.6 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds through 14 games this season.
