Stephen Curry Indirectly Acknowledges Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors Amid Warriors’ Ties to Bucks Superstar

Stephen Curry responded to rumors of the Golden State Warriors' pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo this trade deadline

Several suitors have emerged amid the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes over the past day, and the Golden State Warriors are near the top of that list. The Dubs are currently in decent form at 27-22, despite losing Jimmy Butler III for the season, but they are far from being a Western Conference contender.

Stephen Curry, however, is still one of the best players in the world, and the front office is likely willing to sacrifice significant future draft capital to pair their star point guard with the Greek Freak. With rumors swirling, Curry was recently asked about the franchise’s approach to this trade deadline and gave an eye-opening response.

Stephen Curry Responded to Rumors of the Golden State Warriors Trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Warriors can trade up to four first-round draft picks in a potential deal for the two-time MVP. This would include unprotected picks in 2026, 2028, and 2032, plus their 2030 first-rounder if it conveys (top-20 protected).

The front office could also add multiple first-round pick swaps and young players, such as Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, to sweeten the offer to the Milwaukee Bucks. Since Curry is 37 years old, the Warriors are squarely in win-now mode, and trading for Antetokounmpo would extend this era’s championship window.

In a recent press conference, Curry addressed the speculation around the Warriors ahead of the February 5 trade deadline. The twelve-time All-Star reaffirmed his focus on winning with the roster he has now, but his comments also highlighted what’s going on behind the scenes.

“(I’m) not ignorant to what’s going on in the league. Rumors and trade talk, and who is on the block. I know what’s going on, but right now it’s about trying to win…I know if there’s something material, they’ll run it by me,” he stated.

Warriors Will Have a Major Decision to Make in the Next Week

Kuminga already requested a trade from the franchise a few weeks ago, but Butler III’s torn ACL has the young forward back in Steve Kerr’s rotation. Antetokounmpo will likely be dealt either before February 5 or over this summer, which means that there’s a chance the Warriors keep Kuminga for the time being.

There are several upgrades general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. could make to this roster if it wants to contend in a loaded West this season. Antetokounmpo can certainly solve some of those issues, but the Warriors might have to virtually punt on this year if they think they can pull off this blockbuster in the near future. That’s a risky move for a franchise with stars nearing the end of their careers.
