Game 6 of the NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers brought the usual broadcast coverage courtside, but this time, there was an unexpected on-air guest. During a live segment from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Stephen A. Smith was joined by Elle Duncan on SportsCenter when the show briefly shifted tone for a more father-daughter moment involving Smith’s daughter, Samantha Smith.
As Smith joined Duncan courtside to break down the ongoing series, the segment briefly pivoted when Duncan revealed it was “Bring your daughter to work day.” She then invited Samantha to step into the frame, marking a brief but widely shared exchange that gave NBA fans a moment of levity ahead of a high-stakes Finals game.

As Duncan called for Samantha to join the pair on air, Smith hesitated but ultimately allowed the moment to happen, telling her to “say hi” to the viewers. Samantha leaned into the mic and began her brief spotlight moment.
“Hi guys, I’m Samantha. I’m Stephen’s daughter. I’m so happy to be here, I’ve made so many friends. This is really great,” Samantha said.

Although Smith generally keeps his family life private, he looked slightly hesitant, but eventually allowed Samantha to step in and have her moment. Interestingly, during the segment, Stephen A. briefly pulled the microphone back and hilariously commented that she is interrupting the broadcast.
Moreover, later in the evening, Samantha made a return, but this time, it was during ESPN’s NBA Countdown. As if her earlier banter with her father was not enough, she chose to kick it up a notch by being straight up the polar opposite of his dad’s pick.

When asked for her pick for Game 6, she confidently backed the Thunder, citing a reaction from her father. According to Samantha, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s presence on the Thunder squad made all the difference, and it will give them an edge over the Pacers.
Smith, on the other hand, went the other way and picked the Pacers. He believed the electric environment of the Gainbridge Fieldhouse would fuel the Pacers squad to outperform the Thunder. The father-daughter split was another lighthearted highlight as fans tuned in for the high-stakes matchup.

The Pacers will host the Thunder in Game 6 with Oklahoma City holding a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. Indiana star Tyrese Haliburton, who had been managing a calf injury throughout the series, has been confirmed available for the must-win matchup.
For Oklahoma City, the tandem of Jalen Williams and league MVP Gilgeous-Alexander continues to be the driving force. The duo has combined to average 58.2 points per game in the Finals, anchoring an offense that has proven difficult to contain in crunch time.
