One of the biggest stories in the NBA over the last few days is the altercation between former Miami Heat teammates Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo. A discussion between the All-Stars turned physical and the NBA world continues to monitor the fall out. Top league insider Shams Charania recently revealed where things stand.

Adebayo confronted Herro while they were in Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League over some comments Herro made about Adebayo that were leaked on social media. Adebayo and Herro reportedly had an animated discussion that led to Adebayo striking Herro.
The Heat traded Herro to the Milwaukee Bucks in the blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo deal. The altercation between Herro and Adebayo adds even more intrigue to the matchups between the Heat and Bucks next season.
Herro’s leaked comments suggest he believes he should have been considered the Heat’s franchise player rather than Adebayo. Herro was named an All-Star in 2025 and won the Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2022.
Adebayo is a three-time All-Star and six-time All-Defensive Team member. He also achieved potential immortality last season by scoring 83 points against the Washington Wizards, the second-highest single-game scoring performance in NBA history.
Herro’s comments allude to Adebayo being overrated, something that certainly angered Adebayo. Herro seemed to believe that he was the Heat’s top offensive option, and Adebayo was overpaid for being a defense-first big man.
Bringing up Adebayo’s salary was another aspect of Herro’s comments that probably upset Adebayo. Herro is entering the last year of his contract, and extension talks with the Heat reportedly went nowhere before he was dealt to Milwaukee.
While Herro is a great scorer, his defensive effort has been criticized at times. Then, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland made headlines when he publicly stated that the team’s offensive goal during the playoffs a few seasons ago was to attack Herro. Herro responded by admitting that he isn’t always a good defender, but neither was Garland.
Adebayo was chosen as the face of the franchise and is starting his latest max extension with the organization this season. The Heat are hopeful that he will form a dynamic duo with Antetokounmpo.
Herro’s comments suggest he believes the Heat chose the wrong man, but he’ll look to prove it on the court and apparently move past this current situation.
