Diehard NBA fans love the summer. Right after the NBA Playoffs conclude, the offseason begins and features a ton of player movement, including free agency, trades, and the draft.
The 2026 NBA free-agency period began three weeks ago, so some of the top players have found teams. However, the biggest name on the market is LeBron James, and he has yet to choose his next destination. Now, his agent, Rich Paul, is asking for patience as his client decides on his future.
LeBron James’ Agent Asks for Patience Amid Free-Agency Decision
Sixteen years ago, the NBA world was glued to ESPN as James announced he would be leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to play for the Miami Heat. Since then, he has returned to Cleveland, won a title, and then departed for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won another championship in 2020.
James has made it clear that he won’t be returning to the Los Angeles Lakers, and now he’s weighing a number of options: the Cavaliers, Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves. On Tuesday, James’ agent Rich Paul appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and provided an update.

“Just have a little patience with him. Obviously, it’s his choice… This is a very important choice for him and you cannot rush it. I think he’s earned the right to not be rushed,” Paul stated of James’ free-agency process.
Some have accused the legendary forward of dragging out his free-agency process to keep the attention on himself. Paul tried to explain what is taking so long.
“It’s not a thing where you’re toying with people’s emotions… This man has a very important, layered decision to make across business, across family, across basketball. You just have to be patient with him,” Paul said, adding that he doesn’t know which team James will join.
James, with a net worth of $1.4 billion, is both a player and a brand.
While the 41-year-old appears to be at the end of his career, his business interests continue to flourish. Finding the best situation that satisfies family, basketball, and business appears to be his ultimate goal.
James has a number of interesting landing spots to consider. The Warriors would grant James the opportunity to play alongside Stephen Curry after the two teamed up on Team USA.
The 76ers would have perhaps the most loaded roster, as they traded for Jaylen Brown to put him alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and V.J. Edgecombe.
Then, there’s the possibility of a reunion with either the Heat or Cavaliers. In Miami, James would team up with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, while reuniting with head coach Erik Spoelstra. In Cleveland, he’d be playing alongside Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, and James Harden (assuming he’s re-signed).
Even entering his 24th NBA season, James is still an elite player and one of the biggest names in the league.
