‘Pathetic,’ ‘Completely Justified’ — NBA World Has Mixed Reaction to Lakers Confronting Refs After Game 2 Loss vs. Thunder

Austin Reaves, LeBron James, and the Lakers confronted the officials after losing Game 2 to the Thunder, and the NBA world had plenty to say.

Hoop Central shared the viral video after the game, with the caption: “Austin Reaves, LeBron James, & the Lakers are having words with the officials after the game.”

Reaves and James had multiple confrontations with the referees during the Game 2 clash:

James had an animated conversation with the ref as well:

The NBA world was quick to respond to the Lakers’ frustration.

One NBA influencer wrote: “This feels like a every OKC game thing, everyone but their fans is tired of this sh*t.”

However, one Thunder influencer was annoyed by the Lakers’ complaints.

“This is actually the most pathetic thing I’ve ever seen,” they wrote.

On the other hand, one NBA observer argued that the Lakers’ frustration was “completely justified” given the controversial calls throughout the game.

“This was one of the most lopsided games I have ever seen from referees in my life,” they added. “There should NBA investigations into what occurred tonight. Despicable.”

One user was amused by the clip, pointing out that James looked like “a proud dad” while backing up Reaves during the post-game confrontation with the ref.

Finally, in response to a late fourth-quarter foul call, one Laker fan account wrote: “THIS SH*T REALLY RIGGED … OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE.”

Austin Reaves Opens Up About His Interactions With Refs

During his postgame press conference, Reaves, who scored a game-high 31 points, was visibly upset when asked about his interactions with the refs.

“I felt like I was respectful to all of them all night. A million times in the past, I’ve said way worse stuff,” Reaves explained. “And when we were doing the whole tip ball and they were switching spots, I wanted to get on the other side because they had a guy on the other side, was just trying to keep an advantage. And he turned around and yelled in my face. I just thought it was disrespectful.”The whole time that was going on over there, I don’t think he said much to them. I know Ben [Taylor] stepped in and said something. But at the end of the day, we’re grown men, and I just didn’t feel like he needed to yell in my face like that. I told him that. I wasn’t disrespectful. I told him if I did that to him first, I would’ve gotten a tech. I feel like the only reason I didn’t get a tech was because he knew he was in the wrong.”I felt disrespected.”
The series will now shift to Los Angeles for Game 3, with James, Reaves, and the rest of the Lakers trying to avoid an 0-3 hole.
