NBA fans are still coming to terms with Russell Westbrook’s stunning decision to step away from the league following an illustrious 18-year career.
Amid the emotional reaction surrounding his retirement, polarizing sports analyst Skip Bayless offered a critical assessment of Westbrook, drawing significant backlash from the NBA world.

Westbrook announced his decision to step away from professional basketball on Wednesday through a social media post featuring a video narrated by actor Michael B. Jordan. While numerous NBA stars, personalities, and fans immediately celebrated Westbrook’s career and showered him with heartfelt tributes, Bayless took a notably different approach when discussing the longtime floor general.
In a video posted to his X account, Bayless openly stated that despite Westbrook’s remarkable career accomplishments, he does not consider the former Oklahoma City Thunder superstar worthy of a place in the Hall of Fame.
“My view of Russell Westbrook’s game: he would not be in my Hall of Fame,” Bayless said. “I don’t hate the player, but I guess I hate the game. Just ain’t my cup of Gatorade.”

Bayless later acknowledged the length and significance of Westbrook’s career. However, he also explained that one particular weakness in the nine-time All-Star’s game prevented him from fully embracing his legacy.
“As I looked at the big picture of Russ’ career, it began to come clearer and clearer: he was a horrendously bad 3-point shooter and a pretty high-volume 3-point shooter,” Bayless griped.
Bayless’ assessment quickly drew criticism from NBA fans on X. Many supporters argued that the day should have been dedicated to celebrating everything the veteran guard accomplished throughout his career rather than focusing on his shortcomings.

Bayless’ latest comments also brought back memories of his long history of targeting Westbrook. The analyst previously became widely known for calling the ex-Thunder standout “Westbrick.”
Westbrook’s wife, Nina, even publicly confronted Bayless on social media, accusing him of disrespecting and shaming their family name.
