The New York Knicks’ long-awaited and first-ever championship parade (since they didn’t have one in 1970 or 1973) is just a day away. However, before fans can celebrate the franchise’s first NBA title in 53 years, many are already venting their frustration over the city’s strict parade guidelines.
New York officials released a lengthy list of prohibited items ahead of Thursday’s celebration in Lower Manhattan, and while most supporters understand the need for heightened security, several restrictions have also got them scratching their heads.
New York NBA Fans Slam Restrictions At Knicks Championship Parade
According to the city’s parade guidelines, all attendees will be screened before entering designated viewing areas, with security checkpoints opening at 6 a.m on Thursday, June 18. Among the prohibited items are bags, backpacks, strollers, umbrellas, pets, chairs, coolers, bicycles, scooters, and drones.
The measures come as New York prepares for what is expected to be one of the largest public gatherings in recent city history. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. ET in Battery Park before making its way through the famed Canyon of Heroes and concluding with a ceremony at City Hall.
After WNBC-TV’s managing editor Steven Bognar shared the list on X, many felt the rules went too far, despite some of the security concerns.
“backpacks i get but NO BAGS WHATSOEVER?!?! bruh that’s so dumb,” one fan wrote.

Another said, “COMPLETELY understand for safety, but no bags at all and no umbrellas gonna be tough,” while also sharing disappointment with the pet ban at the parade. “Also devastated about no pets 😭😭 wanted to see all the pups in their Knicks gear 🧡💙”

While others were concerned about the impact of these restrictions on families hoping to attend the celebration.
“No bags? At all? How is anyone supposed to bring their kids to this without being able to bring a bag,” one fan posted.

Sports radio host Keith McPherson shared a similar view. “Nah now this is OD,” McPherson wrote while another added: “No strollers or bags??? So what are the parents supposed to do here?”
One fan summed up the feeling: “This is becoming less and less fun plus everyone is sick af idk yall.”

Ironically, Knicks forward Mikal Bridges may also run afoul of one of the rules. Earlier this week, Bridges joked that the one thing he wanted from the parade was to bring his dog Sonny, an 8-year-old Labrador retriever, along for the ride.
Unfortunately for Bridges and fans hoping to show off their four-legged Knicks supporters, pets are firmly on the prohibited list.
