NBA Announces Josh Giddey Just Did Something No Bulls Player Has Done Since Michael Jordan

Chicago Bulls rising star Josh Giddey continued stuffing the stat sheet during Tuesday’s 113-111 comeback home victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, etching his name in franchise history alongside Michael Jordan.

With both teams tied for the Eastern Conference’s top record (5-1) entering the night, the Bulls had their sights set on the No. 1 seed, needing every bit of Giddey’s production to get over the hump.

What Milestone Did Josh Giddey Reach Against the 76ers?

Giddey finished with 29 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists, one steal, and two 3-pointers on 10-for-19 shooting (52.6%), spearheading Chicago’s rally from a 24-point first-half deficit.

Upon entering the final frame trailing 95-84, the Bulls continued chipping away, with Giddey coming up clutch down the stretch. The 23-year-old playmaker converted a driving floater to bring his squad within one point (111-110) with 1:19 remaining. A few possessions later, he drove to the basket and found an open Nikola Vučević in the corner, setting the two-time All-Star center up for a go-ahead triple with 3.2 seconds to go.

Philadelphia was unable to respond on the other end as wing Quentin Grimes missed the mark on a potential game-winner at the top of the arc.

With his fourth-quarter heroics, Giddey achieved his second consecutive triple-double. In doing so, he became the second player in Bulls history to accomplish the feat, joining Jordan (1988-89).

Additionally, with his seventh 20-point triple-double since joining Chicago last year, Giddey surpassed Jordan’s former co-star Scottie Pippen (six) for the second-most in franchise history.

The Bulls overcame a game-high 39 points from 76ers star point guard Tyrese Maxey as Philadelphia went ice cold in the second half. On top of Giddey’s well-rounded showing, Vučević recorded a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double, marking one of six Bulls to finish in double-figure scoring.

“I think it was a great test tonight to see how we responded after our first loss in New York. Another really good team coming in here tonight that’s been hot as well,” Giddey said postgame.

“So, this was an awesome test, and unbelievable resilience by the group to come out in the second half the way we did. Down 20, 25, it would’ve been easy to throw the towel in and call it a night, get ready for the next one, but credit to the guys.”

With its comeback, Chicago improved to 6-1, giving it a one-game edge over the 76ers (5-2) and the Detroit Pistons (5-2) at the top of the East. The upstart squad has arguably been the league’s biggest surprise, benefiting from internal development and its speed and athleticism.

The Bulls will aim to build on their hot start in Friday’s road clash against the Milwaukee Bucks (5-3) as Giddey looks to extend his triple-double streak to three games.
