Kevin Durant and his future destination continue to be a subject of discussion and debate among the NBA community. After joining the Phoenix Suns back in 2023, Durant has been unable to lead the team past the second round of the NBA playoffs despite having several talented stars alongside him.
Since the Suns have the most expensive roster compared to the rest of the NBA, it is no surprise that the team is finally considering a move from the two-time NBA champion after failing to qualify for the playoffs this season.
With the 2025 NBA Draft rapidly approaching, the Suns have the perfect opportunity to find a deal that could help them offload Durant and receive significant assets in return.

The Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets Are Two Teams To Watch in a Kevin Durant Trade
Jake Fischer, a senior NBA reporter for Yahoo Sports, opened up about the Durant trade possibilities. During a recent stream, Fischer revealed that the Toronto Raptors, who have the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and Houston Rockets, who have the No. 10 overall pick, are teams that fans should pay close attention to for a potential Durant trade.
“The Kevin Durant sweepstakes loom over all of this,” Fischer said. “Toronto at nine, very involved in the Kevin Durant circumstance. Houston at 10, very involved in the Kevin Durant trade sweepstakes.
“They might be the spot Kevin Durant wants the most, all said and done,” Fischer said. “So there’s so much uncertainty in this range of the draft. That could be cleared up depending on when and how Kevin Durant gets traded. The Phoenix Suns are definitely a team that wants to be in this range…”
Since the Suns have an overpriced roster, they will be looking to reduce that to keep their current squad intact. Therefore, the team might engage in a trade with either the Raptors or Rockets for draft assets.
Durant has just one year left on his contract. Considering that he has shown no interest in playing for the Raptors, the Suns risk letting him walk after one season and getting nothing in return.
On the other hand, the Rockets know that Durant likely wants to play in Houston. Therefore, they have an advantage in trade negotiations and could lowball the Suns to get Durant while retaining most of their young core.
Since the San Antonio Spurs have the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, that is another team that might consider entering a “win-now” mode by making a move for Durant. The Suns’ star has also indicated a preference towards joining the Miami Heat.
With the 2025 NBA Draft only a few days away, fans are left pondering which of these teams will be able to successfully negotiate a trade for Durant.
