Multi-time All-Star and NBA champion Anthony Davis remains linked to some of the league’s biggest free agency questions this summer. While Davis prepares to make his Washington Wizards debut, speculation remains that his future is tied to LeBron James.
James continues to assess his options before choosing his next team, and reportedly has an eye on re-joining forces with Davis or star point guard Kyrie Irving. An NBA insider recently shared more information on the situation.
NBA Insider Reveals Wizards Likely to Keep Anthony Davis
NBA insider Brett Siegel believes it’s highly unlikely Davis will leave the Wizards to join forces with James or anyone else. Siegel said “The Wizards are not interested in trading him. They want to agree to some type of long-term deal with AD. Maybe a two-year, three-year extension will be on the table with the Wizards.”

Siegel also notes that Davis wants a max contract from the Wizards, which he says is “not gonna happen.” Davis has one guaranteed year left on his current deal and may enter free agency next summer, which is why the Golden State Warriors are reportedly interested in acquiring Davis and potentially signing James.
Davis was involved in one of the most significant trades in recent league history last year when the Mavs acquired him for Luka Dončić. The move didn’t work out for the Mavs, as Davis continued to add to his lengthy injury history.
Davis suffered a serious left-hand injury this past January that derailed his season and ultimately led to the Mavs pulling the plug on his time in the organization. He was traded to the Washington Wizards, who are looking to move back up the Eastern Conference standings this upcoming season.
Davis continues to produce when available, averaging 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game in 20 appearances this past season. The Wizards also acquired multi-time All-Star point guard Trae Young and signed him to a long-term deal, and now they’ll hope to do the same with Davis.
There’s a lot of intrigue around the Wizards with the selection of wing AJ Dybantsa with the first overall pick in the recent NBA Draft. Davis is a part of a very talented front court on paper, including 2024 second overall pick Alex Sarr, who continues to develop.
The Wizards also acquired center Deandre Ayton this month, who could be insurance if Davis gets hurt again, or if Siegel ends up being wrong and the Wizards shockingly trade Davis before he ever plays a game with the team.
Siegel’s comments suggest the only way a trade is possible is if Davis is completely frustrated about not receiving a max extension.
