Jonathan Kuminga’s decision to join the Minnesota Timberwolves on a two-year, $13 million contract surprised the NBA fans. The deal allows him to have greater control over the timing of his next contract instead of leaving that decision entirely in the team’s hands.
However, the move has put Kuminga’s agent, Aaron Turner, under intense scrutiny. Now another NBA analyst has added his voice to the ongoing discussion.

After waiting for months to determine his next destination this offseason, Kuminga ultimately made the bold choice to bet on himself. His decision came after the Timberwolves repeatedly pursued him over the past month.
However, The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie strongly criticized Kuminga’s agent during his latest video, arguing that Turner mishandled the situation.
“This is like complete malpractice as an agent,” Vecenie said, describing the decision-making process as a major failure on the agent’s part.
The analyst explained why he was so critical of Turner, illustrating how he believed Kuminga’s camp ended up moving backward financially.

“If I turn down two years 45 million and two weeks later, got two years 40 million, I fumbled, right? I went backward. Most people, if you had to negotiate for two more weeks to make a couple million dollars more, wouldn’t you do that? Isn’t that my job?” Vecenie said, citing Turner’s comments from a 2025 interview.
“Well, dude, I’m here to tell you, you fumbled and you [expletive] up, Aaron Turner… How you made the right decision is baffling. It’s completely baffling.”
Before eventually accepting Minnesota’s offer, Kuminga reportedly rejected a significantly more lucrative proposal from the Los Angeles Lakers.
The former Atlanta Hawks forward passed on an opportunity that would have provided him with a comparable starting role while earning more than $12 million annually over three years through a potential sign-and-trade arrangement with the Lakers.
However, Turner explained that financial considerations were not the driving force behind Kuminga’s decision this time.
According to the agent, what ultimately attracted Kuminga to Minnesota was the team’s “defensive versatility,” which played a major role in his surprising choice.
The Timberwolves move came as the team president, Tim Connelly, reportedly traveled to Miami to meet with Kuminga in person, while Anthony Edwards actively participated in Minnesota’s aggressive recruiting effort to convince the young forward to join the team.
Now with Minnesota, Kuminga will also have the flexibility to leave his contract after the upcoming season because of a player option for the 2027-28 NBA season.
With a fresh start, the 23-year-old is now expected to step into Minnesota’s vacant starting power forward position, joining a lineup featuring Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert.
