The Slovenian superstar filled the stat sheet in just 12 minutes, putting up 22 points, four rebounds and three assists while knocking down five three-pointers. He shot 7-of-9 from the field, including a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc during the stretch.

More importantly, the outburst added another historic mark to Dončić’s season. According to ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin, the Lakers guard has now scored 20 or more points in the first quarter five times this season, the most by any player in a single season since play-by-play tracking began in 1996-97.

The Lakers entered the matchup short-handed, playing without LeBron James and Deandre Ayton. Dončić responded by taking over the offense early, leading Los Angeles’ attack from the opening tip.

As his shots kept falling, fans and NBA media quickly flooded X with reactions.

NBA’s official account posted the jaw-dropping stat line from the opening quarter.

“LUKA IS ON FIRE 🔥

Dončić’s explosive start continues what has been a career year for the six-time All-Star. Now in his eighth NBA season and second with the Lakers, he is averaging 32.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists while shooting 47.5% from the field and 36.2% from three-point range.

While Dončić has faced criticism this season for his poor defense, constant complaints to officials, and ball-heavy style, performances like this remind everyone why Los Angeles views him as the long-term successor to King James in the Lakers.

Dončić continued his offensive brilliance well beyond the explosive first quarter, finishing the night with 44 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.
