After losing to the arch-rival Boston Celtics on Friday at TD Garden, the Los Angeles Lakers were hoping to bounce back on Sunday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena against the Philadelphia 76ers to finish their long road trip on a high note.
Fortunately for Los Angeles, the team was able to do just that, as they got a triple-double out of Luka Dončić, who returned to the squad after the birth of his daughter, and some late-game heroics from future Hall of Famer LeBron James, who played a pivotal role in the Lakers winning their 17th game of the 2025-26 NBA season.
James got red hot during the fourth quarter against the 76ers, scoring 10 straight points while ultimately being the difference for the Lakers in Philadelphia.
LeBron James Reveals What He’ll Miss When Retired
After getting the best of the 76ers and playing his best game of the season thus far, James reflected on what it was like to put on a clutch performance in front of the famously rowdy fans in Philadelphia.
Interestingly enough, James revealed that the energy from arenas during games like these will be something he dearly misses when he finally retires, as it is something that simply can’t be replaced, via NBA on ESPN’s X account.
“That’s the one thing you won’t be able to get back when you’re done playing, is that arena.”

“It never gets old, and that’s the one thing you won’t be able to get back when you’re done playing, is that arena,” James said. “That excitement of going out and either the excitement, boos or whatever the case may be, you’ll never be able to get that back once you are done playing.
“I understand I’m on the other side of the fence then the previous ones, and to do it in a win is more important. To be able to come up clutch in a win, that’s even more exciting.”
When players of James’ caliber or any professional athlete, for that matter, retire, they usually look back at things like this that can’t be replaced. The common theme is the inability to replicate the locker room environment and camaraderie with teammates while traveling from arena to arena and seeing one another more often than their families throughout the season.
It seems James will likely be no different, as he still clearly enjoys everything that comes with being one of the most prominent stars in professional sports, as arenas tend to be full when he is coming to town, with fans wanting to get a glimpse of one of the best players to ever play in the NBA.
As for when James will retire, it remains uncertain, as he has yet to decide whether this season will be his last in the NBA or perhaps just his last in a Lakers uniform, which seems to be the consensus at this point.
In the meantime, James will be taking it game by game, with the Lakers’ next challenge being an NBA Cup showdown against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with superstar Victor Wembanyama potentially making his return to the floor.
