LeBron James Calls Matching Career-Best Shooting Mark Against Rockets ‘Pretty Cool’

LeBron James tied a career-high 92.9% field-goal percentage as the Lakers beat the Rockets to move closer to the Western 3-seed

It should be unfathomable at this point in his career. Somehow, LeBron James has not only reinvented himself as a do-it-all Swiss Army knife for the Los Angeles Lakers as a third option, but he is also putting up historic stat lines during this recent winning streak.

The best game came in a victory against the Houston Rockets, where James tied a career personal best as the Lakers won consecutive games against the Rockets to secure the season series sweep.

LeBron James Continues to Defy Father Time

The story of James’ greatness could fill an entire book, and it still might not be enough. Somehow, the four-time MVP continues to add to his legacy 23 years into his career. This season has been a prime example of that excellence.

With the Lakers featuring three ball-dominant players in Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, and James, someone had to take a backseat role. Unselfishly, James has embraced that role, and it has led to immediate success for the team.

However, on the nights when his team needs it, he can still tap into that fifth gear. The game against the Rockets was one of those affairs. In one of the most bizarre coincidences, as reported by “Legion Hoops,” James achieved something he had only done once before, 15 years ago to the day.

“OK, this is nuts: 15 years ago today, LeBron finished the first half on 100% shooting from the field, the same as he did tonight. The only time he’s ever had a perfect half just happened on the same day, 15 years later.”

His spectacular play was not limited to the first half. Continuing into the second half, James finished with 30 points on the night while knocking down 13 of his 14 shot attempts. This performance tied his highest field-goal percentage (92.9%) from a 2013 game against the Charlotte Bobcats.

The win helped the Lakers earn their seventh straight victory and gave them the tiebreaker against the teams immediately behind them in the standings. With just 13 games remaining on the schedule, that bodes extremely well for their chances to emerge as the 3-seed from the Western Conference.

In the locker room after the game, James spoke at length about his sustained excellence. “It’s pretty cool to be able to still play at this level at this juncture of my career. So, to go out there and help the team win a ball game, a tight ball game, is pretty cool.”

Even at 41 years old, James was able to slam home several dunks, including late alley-oops that helped Los Angeles clinch the victory. As the “big three” rounds into form and figures out how to play together, the recent string of success is a hugely optimistic sign for Lakers fans.

With just 13 games left in the regular season before an all-important playoff run, the roster appears to be rounding into form at the perfect time.
