LeBron James Free Agency Rumors: West Contender Expressing Interest in NBA Legend (and It’s Not the Warriors)

The LeBron James free agency rumors are getting crazy. Now a non-Warriors Western Conference contender wants the 4x MVP too.

The LeBron James free agency tour has sent everyone into a frenzy.

What is known is that after eight seasons, one NBA title, and seven All-NBA appearances, the league’s all-time leading scorer will be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers.

In the immediate aftermath, those connecting the dots tied the future first-ballot Hall of Famer to another California team, such as the Golden State Warriors.

Surprise Landing Spot for LeBron James Emerges After Lakers Farewell

Playing with the Warriors would not only allow James to stay close to his family but would also let him finally team up with another basketball icon, Steph Curry.

Others were quick to point out the opportunity for James to return home to Ohio for a third time by signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Coming off a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, the 41-year-old may be the missing piece the Cavaliers need to double the number of championship trophies in their halls.

As expected, that’s not all.

The idea of arguably the greatest basketball player of all time is also intriguing, another contender from the Western Conference, though the weather is much, much colder there.

While the temperatures may be frigid, the opportunity to do something special is red-hot.

According to The Athletic‘s Sam Amick, the Minnesota Timberwolves are the latest team to express an interest in signing James.

“The Warriors do not appear to have clarity yet regarding James’ plans. Cleveland and Miami are often cited as realistic landing spots as well, and the Minnesota Timberwolves are known to have interest if he felt like shocking the basketball world with that sort of move.”

There’s no word on how realistic this landing spot is. Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly has developed a reputation for swinging for the fences.

Since he’s taken over in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, the Timberwolves have often been mentioned as a team kicking the tires on the biggest stars available.

While they haven’t actually landed most of those names, the Timberwolves have successfully traded for a pair of stars in Rudy Gobert and LaMelo Ball.

Decades went by where the Timberwolves weren’t even in earshot of adding big-name talent, but Connelly has brought a change of the tide.

Still, when options like the Warriors or even a return to Cleveland are on the table, would LeBron really pick Minnesota?

The Timberwolves definitely have a need for a new starting power forward after trading both Julius Randle and Naz Reid.

Jaden McDaniels, who stands at 6-foot-9, may be able to fill the gap, but the 185-pound defender may be better suited for his more natural small forward position instead.

Meanwhile, James would be exactly what the Timberwolves are looking for. The question is whether he’s looking to team up with Anthony Edwards, McDaniels, and Ball, too, and whether they can make it all fit under the salary cap.
