‘Narcissistic, Ego Driven’ – NBA Analyst Rips LeBron James’ $52.6 Million Decision Amid Reports of Frustration With the Lakers

LeBron James faces criticism from NBA analyst Aaron Torres, who blames the star's hefty salary for Lakers' roster ceiling.

Not long after the Los Angeles Lakers’ four-game sweep at the hands of the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, speculation on LeBron James’ future surfaced.

And from that very rumor mill came a surprising report detailing the 41-year-old superstar’s belief that the franchise takes his contributions for granted.

Naturally, the reaction was immediate and aggressive, with one analyst now claiming the league’s all-time leading scorer is escaping accountability.

Aaron Torres Blasts LeBron James Over Reported Frustration With Lakers

Fox Sports Radio analyst Aaron Torres delivered a blistering critique of James’ feeling “underappreciated” by the Los Angeles franchise.

Torres addressed the growing narrative that the Lakers’ front office failed to surround James with adequate talent.

Framing James’ frustration as a recurring theme whenever a season ended in disappointment, Torres said, “This guy is so narcissistic, so ego-driven. We know that it is not about a game ball. We know that after a season that does not result in a championship, it is never LeBron’s fault, it’s always everybody else’s fault.”

He then highlighted general manager Rob Pelinka’s measures taken to appease the 41-year-old over the past several seasons.

“In this case, blame Rob Pelinka. Even though Pelinka traded for Luka Dončić in his prime… He drafted your son. He’s done everything you wanted. He traded everything for Anthony Davis…”

Torres went on to claim that James has a well-documented history of clashing with coaches and executives.

“Let me put it this way, I don’t think any athlete has been less unappreciated than LeBron James,” Torres said. “It is not just the headline. It’s the story behind the story, which is that this guy, 41-years-old, 23 years in the NBA, is still trying to get anyone fired. He throws temper tantrums.”

“How many GMs, how many head coaches. Nobody’s ever good enough. Ty Lue wins him a championship, he is mad at him. Erik Spoelstra it’s easy to forget he tried to get him fired early on. You go on and on.”

Torres argued that James’ $52.6 million salary makes it difficult to build a strong supporting cast.

“Is Rob Pelinka perfect? No,” Torres said. “But part of the reason that Rob Pelinka couldn’t build a better team around you is because again, you opted into a deal that paid you 50 plus million dollars a year.”

When injuries struck Los Angeles when playoffs were on the horizon, the lack of depth left them exposed. Despite getting past the Houston Rockets, an exhausted James and the depleted Lakers were no match for the surging OKC.

“I’m not saying you should’ve taken less money,” Torres clarified. “I’m saying part of the reason the team was limited in building around you is because you chose to make 50 million dollars as a 41-year-old…”

With the Lakers’ megastar entering free agency, the front office needs to decide how much flexibility it can sacrifice to avoid letting James walk. At the same time, the franchise will also want to make the most of Dončić’s prime.
