LaMelo Ball just joined the Minnesota Timberwolves, and he’s already making headlines, though not for anything that happened on the court. On the debut episode of “The LaVar Ball Show,” the 24-year-old All-Star guard was asked a simple enough question: name your top five point guards of all time.
What followed was hilarious, and it’s a preview of what Minnesota is getting in Ball beyond the 20-point nights and no-look dimes.
LaMelo Ball Could Only Name 3 All-Time Great NBA Guards
LaVar posed the question to all three of his sons, and while Lonzo and LiAngelo came armed with full rosters, LaMelo got to three names and called it a day.
“Five all-time guards? I feel like my answers for these types of questions change every day… But probably Steph Curry. Kyrie. Magic… Same people they said. I don’t really care, bro,” Ball said, gesturing toward his brothers, who had just gone through their own lists.
Lonzo immediately mocked him, pretending to be LaMelo and saying, “I don’t watch enough basketball for all this!”

The room broke out laughing after LaMelo bailed on his list. Lonzo went with Magic Johnson, Curry, Derrick Rose, Penny Hardaway, and Isiah Thomas. LiAngelo went with Johnson, Curry, Rose, Irving, and LaMelo, boldly including his younger brother.
LaMelo’s response seemed less about ignorance and more about pure indifference to the exercise. He made it clear he doesn’t care about stuff like this, and LaVar responded with a laugh, “I know you don’t! I can tell. I can tell.”
LaVar then pivoted the conversation to shooting guards, where Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, and Dwyane Wade were the consensus across lists. Lonzo mentioned James Harden as the fifth, while LiAngelo ranked Tracy McGrady over Harden.
LaMelo was traded to Minnesota after the 2026 NBA Draft, with Charlotte sending him and Josh Green to the Timberwolves for Naz Reid, an unprotected 2033 first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps, and three second-round picks.
Across his six years in Charlotte, the former No. 3 overall pick never led the Hornets to the playoffs. Now, Ball is joining a contending Timberwolves team that is hoping he and Anthony Edwards can form a dangerous one-two punch in the Western Conference.
