Kevin Durant was in the spotlight this past weekend, celebrating his 16th All-Star selection, a milestone few players reach in their careers. But instead of the focus being solely on the honor, Durant found himself at the center of a social media firestorm.
Kevin Durant Responded To The Social Media Allegations Against Him
Allegations began to spread that the all-time great forward used a burner account to call out his former Houston Rockets teammates. These claims eventually spread like wildfire, leaving fans and analysts speculating about what really happened. Durant ultimately gave a definitive response to these rumors today.
Over the weekend, screenshots from an anonymous X account called “@gethigher77” began circulating online with posts allegedly criticizing both Durant’s current Rockets teammates, like Jabari Smith Jr. and Alperen Şengün, and past teammates such as Devin Booker and Stephen Curry
The alleged burner account reportedly called Smith Jr. untrustworthy on both offense and defense and mocked Şengün’s shooting and defensive ability. The account also alleged that the Golden State Warriors didn’t appreciate Durant holding Curry accountable in film, and also compared Booker and former Suns coach Frank Vogel to dictators.
Many people believe the account belongs to Durant based on circumstantial clues, including a header image that matches his past posts, a similar writing style, and the account’s existence during times he has admitted to using burner profiles.
Even long-time sports pundit Bill Simmons acknowledged on “The Bill Simmons Podcast” that there are many signs the account is his and that, if the leaks are true, it would be an unprecedented social media scandal involving a star trash-talking fellow players. Durant, however, shot down these rumors when asked if the account was his.

“I know you’ve got to ask these questions, but I’m not here to get into Twitter nonsense. I’m here to focus on the season and keep pushing…My teammates know what it is, we’ve been locked in the whole season. We had a great practice today, and we’re looking forward to the road trip.”
The 37-year-old is putting together a phenomenal 18th NBA season with the Rockets, who currently sit in fourth place in a loaded Western Conference. This bit of news is a dark cloud over a team that is a legit championship contender, but Durant seems confident that these allegations are untrue.
The decorated forward will look forward to Thursday’s road clash with the Charlotte Hornets. This game will be a decent indication of whether the recent allegations are affecting the rest of the Rockets’ roster.
