Bob Myers enjoyed incredible success during his tenure as the President and GM of the Golden State Warriors. Golden State won four championships from 2015-2022, as Myers oversaw Draymond Green and Klay Thompson’s arrival at the franchise, in addition to the 2013 trade of Andre Iguodala.
However, Myers also made several difficult decisions for the franchise. During his appearance on the “Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady” podcast, Myers revealed the toughest decision he took during his tenure, which came as a result of the Warriors’ decision to trade for De’Angello Russel in 2019.

Iguodala not only won three championships during his Warriors tenure, but he was also the 2015 Finals MVP over Stephen Curry. He was an integral part of three championship-winning teams and returned to the Warriors as a free agent in 2022 to win his fourth ring.
As it turns out, Iguodala was extremely professional when he found out, despite the fact that he was not being traded to a winning team.
“Trading Iguodala,” he said. “We had to trade Iguodala, who’d won three championships with the team, in 2019, to sign D’Angelo Russell.”
“And the way he took it, the professionalism,” Myers said. “As far as a player handling a tough thing, I’ve never seen one do it as well as he did in that moment. To call a guy, that’s when it gets personal and say, we are trading you. We trade him to Memphis. And he knew it wasn’t a team trying to win.”
Myers went on to explain that while he knew he was merely doing his job, it wasn’t only about the championships or the highlights. Instead, it was about the relationships he forged along the way, claiming that he still regularly calls the likes of Green, Curry, and Iguodala.
“But Andre looked at me and said, ‘I understand. You got to do what you got to do.’ And it wasn’t fair. It wasn’t right. When a player does that much for you and your organization and you make a decision where he deserved better… There was no easy way around it.”
During his second stint, Iguodala spent two seasons with the Warriors and came off the bench. However, it was his basketball IQ and defensive acumen that made him an immediate fan-favorite with the Warriors, which, combined with his professionalism, means that he goes down as a bonafide legend from the most successful era for the franchise.
