San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox is dealing with right ankle soreness, which has raised concerns about his availability for Tuesday’s Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After two grueling games on the road, the Spurs will be happy to be back in San Antonio for a crucial Game 5 in the Western Conference Semifinals series.
De’Aaron Fox Injury Update: Will the Spurs Guard Play in Game 5 vs. the Timberwolves?
The Spurs were left shorthanded in Game 4 against the Timberwolves after Victor Wembanyama was ejected in the second quarter for elbowing Naz Reid. In his absence, Fox stepped up in a major way with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists, but it wasn’t able to prevent Minnesota from evening up the series.
Fox played through pain in that game, suffering an injury in the third quarter when Ayo Dosunmu landed on his ankle while attempting to get to a loose ball.
Now, ahead of Tuesday’s Game 5, Fox is listed as questionable on the official injury report. He participated in a shootaround on Tuesday, but a final decision on his availability will likely be made closer to tip-off. For now, consider him a game-time decision and check back for updates to see how he feels after going through his pregame warmup.
During the playoffs, Fox is averaging 18.7 points per game while shooting 44.4% from the field. He has been a key piece for San Antonio since arriving in a trade with the Sacramento Kings in 2025.
In addition to Fox, the Spurs have also added Dylan Harper to the injury report. The rookie guard came off the bench and scored 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting in Game 4. Now, he is dealing with soreness in his left knee. He seemingly sustained this injury late in the fourth quarter of Game 4 while attempting an offensive rebound.

Harper’s status was downgraded to questionable on this afternoon’s report, so it sounds like he will also be a game-time decision.
It will be interesting to see how these injuries affect Mitch Johnson’s backcourt in Game 5, especially if neither guard can play. Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell would be next in line to start if Fox and Harper are both forced to miss Tuesday’s game. Even if Fox and Harper play, it remains to be seen if they will be limited due to their injuries.
Luckily for San Antonio, Wembanyama avoided a suspension for his Game 4 incident with Reid, so he is all set to play on Tuesday night.
