‘Thanks for Ruining LeBron’s 23rd Season’ — Lakers Fans React to Luka Dončić’s Troubling Admission After Playoff Elimination

Luka Dončić faces pushback over a concerning admission about his health status after the Lakers' season-ending loss to OKC.

Los Angeles Lakers fans held out hope that Luka Dončić would make a miraculous early return from injury in the Western Conference semifinals to help his team rally against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Ultimately, the superstar guard remained sidelined throughout the playoffs. Dončić watched as LA suffered a gut-wrenching 115-110 Game 4 home loss on Monday, capping off a sweep at the hands of the defending NBA champions. Afterward, he made a troubling admission about his health status, exacerbating Lakers Nation’s frustrations.

Luka Dončić Fuels Fan Outrage by Admitting He ‘Wasn’t Close’ to Returning in Lakers-Thunder Series

Dončić’s MVP-caliber season, in which he led the league in scoring (33.5 points per game), was cut short on April 2 when he sustained a Grade 2 left hamstring strain against OKC.

The six-time All-Star missed the final five outings of the regular season and LA’s six-game first-round playoff series triumph over the Houston Rockets, with optimism abounding that he could return at some point in Round 2.

Instead, Dončić was continually ruled out as the fourth-seeded Lakers were thoroughly outmatched on both ends against the league-best Thunder. Between OKC’s suffocating defense, elite depth, and ability to flip a switch and take its game to another level at any moment, LA suffered three straight blowout losses to begin the second round.

Monday’s Game 4 clash was a different story, as the Lakers had a chance to win and extend the series before LeBron James and Austin Reaves each missed critical shots in crunch time.

Following LA’s season-ending defeat, Dončić, who had been labeled week-to-week in his recovery entering the series, took to the podium and conceded that his rumored return was nothing more than a pipe dream.

“It’s very frustrating. I know some people wanted me back, but obviously, I wasn’t close to clearing,” Dončić said.

“There was some stuff in the media that went out that wasn’t true … If I could be out there, I would be, 100%. Everybody in that room knows that. But it’s been really tough. Like I said, this is the best time to play basketball. I was sad not to be able to help my team.”

Despite his honesty about his grueling rehab process, Dončić promptly faced pushback from fans on X.

“Thanks for ruining LeBron’s 23rd season and letting the entire fan base miss out on what could have been. All the hope, all the hype, all for nothing,” one user blasted Dončić.

“F**k this crybaby 👆🏼 LA can do better. I’m sorry G, but you don’t have what it takes to lead a team to win,” another vented.

“Luka Dončić, you a b*tch. You left 41-year-old LeBron out there alone when it mattered the most 🖕🏽💯,” content creator Davo Migo fumed.

“But that offseason weight loss. We doing magazine covers of Health again or nah?” one fan called out the Slovenian megastar.

“No one wants him back,” another asserted.

Still, some fans maintained that a healthy Dončić could’ve tilted the scales against the 64-win juggernaut.

“The Lakers are really one whole Luka Dončić away from winning this series,” one user claimed.

“Luka Dončić would have been electric in these playoffs, man,” another remarked.

Acquired from the Dallas Mavericks at the 2025 NBA trade deadline, Dončić was widely expected to reverse the Lakers’ fortunes and maximize the remainder of James’ tenure with the franchise.

Unfortunately for the 27-year-old, after missing the entire 2026 postseason, he has still contributed to only one playoff victory for LA.
