The basketball world got its first look at NBA 2K27 today. Every year, many people sit on the edge of their seats to see who the cover athletes will be for each edition.
The franchise revealed two monumental icons in the basketball world to fill these roles for 2K27: San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama and Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark.

The official NBA 2K X account officially revealed Wembanyama as the NBA 2K27 Standard Edition Cover Athlete at 9:55 a.m. ET. One minute later, the account posted Clark as the Deluxe Edition Cover Athlete.
Both basketball stars have been in their respective leagues for only three years, but they have made a strong, immediate impact on their franchises, putting them in championship contention.
San Antonio missed the playoffs from 2020 to 2025, but that all changed last season. Wembanyama led his squad all the way to the 2026 NBA Finals in just his third NBA season, taking down the reigning champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, on his way.
The Spurs fell to the New York Knicks in five games, but they cemented themselves as a championship contender for years to come.
Wembanyama racked up many accolades this past season. He finished third in MVP voting, took home Defensive Player of the Year, and earned his second All-Star selection. The 22-year-old also made the All-NBA First Team and All-Defensive First Team.
Sports content creator Matthew Geist predicted 2026 NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson as the cover athlete, but has no qualms about the company featuring the Spurs’ superstar. “Thought it be Brunson but was some wishful thinking. [Wembanyama] is a great choice too,” Geist posted.
The Fever took Clark with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, and she certainly has lived up to the high expectations. Clark’s trophy case is quickly filling up.
The 24-year-old finished fourth in MVP voting and earned All-WNBA First Team in her rookie campaign. She has made the All-Star Game every season of her career, and it does not look like she is slowing down.
Indiana is tied with the Atlanta Dream at 16-10, leading the Eastern Conference. The Fever missed the playoffs from 2017 to 2023, but that changed with Clark. They have made the playoffs every year of her career and sit in a great position to make a deep postseason run.

@cc22report on X likes both cover athletes, but the account roasted 2K for posting a poor picture of Clark.

@30sLegacy on X instantly knew he/she would buy the game after 2K revealed Clark as a cover athlete. The post read, “Yes WE all buying this.”
It is certainly safe to say the company chose its cover athletes well with these two basketball superstars.
