Over the weekend, the NBA held All-Star festivities in Los Angeles, California.

At the conclusion of the weekend, Wilkins made a heartfelt post to Instagram.

He wrote: “2026 All-Star Weekend… it’s always a good time, but it’s never just about basketball. It’s about walking into a room full of teammates, brothers, competitors , men & woman who pushed each other to be great and realizing time may pass, but respect never does. For a few days, the years disappear and the stories pick right back up where they left off. All-Star isn’t just the best of the best on the court… it’s the best memories, the best friendships, and the reminder of what it took to get there. The sacrifice, the grind, the wins, the losses, all of it mattered. Moments like this feel special because they mean something. Not just who was the greatest… but who shared the journey.”

Wilkins was the third pick in the 1982 NBA Draft out of Georgia.

He made all nine of his All-Star Games playing for the Hawks.

However, they were unable to get out of the second round of the NBA playoffs.

Wilkins had career averages of 24.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 46.1% from the field and 31.9% from three-point range in 1,074 games.

In addition to the Hawks and Magic, Wilkins also spent time with the Boston Celtics, LA Clippers and San Antonio Spurs over 15 seasons.

In 1988, Wilkins averaged a career-high 30.7 points per contest while shooting 46.4% from the field in 78 games for Atlanta.

As for the current Hawks, they are the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 26-30 record in 56 games.

They are in the middle of a three-game losing streak (and 5-5 over their last ten).

Following the All-Star break, the Hawks will resume action on Thursday when they visit the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center.

During the 2021 season, the Hawks reached the Eastern Conference finals.

They have missed the NBA playoffs in each of the previous two years.
