Is Anthony Edwards Playing Tonight? Latest Injury Update on Timberwolves Star for Mavericks Game

Anthony Edwards is questionable against the Mavericks tonight. Missing another game puts his postseason award eligibility at risk.

Anthony Edwards has been the driving force behind the Minnesota Timberwolves’ surge this season, and even in his absence, the team has stayed competitive, winning four of its last six games while he recovers from a knee issue.

However, Minnesota is coming off a disappointing 109-87 loss to the Detroit Pistons and could use its star guard back as it prepares to face the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night. The good news is that Edwards appears to be trending toward a return.

Anthony Edwards Injury Update: Will He Play Against the Mavericks?

Edwards has missed the Timberwolves’ last six games due to right knee soreness, but there is growing optimism that he could suit up against Dallas. He was cleared for on-court basketball activities last week and has now been upgraded to questionable for Monday night’s game.

“Anthony Edwards listed as questionable tomorrow night, ramping up to play. Edwards need to play in every game from here on out to qualify for postseason awards. Jaden McDaniels still out,” wrote Chris Hine of The Minnesota Star Tribune.

If he does return, even in a limited role, it would be a significant boost for Minnesota. Edwards has appeared in 58 games this season and is putting together a career year, averaging 29.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, while shooting 49.2% from the field and 40.2% from beyond the arc.

He has missed 16 games so far, and with fewer than 10 remaining in the regular season, the 2026 All-Star MVP is in danger of falling short of the NBA’s 65-game eligibility threshold if he is unable to play against the Mavericks.

The 24-year-old initially went down earlier this month during a 116-103 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, when his right knee soreness worsened. The injury was later diagnosed as knee inflammation, and he was expected to miss at least one week. While that timeline has passed, the team has remained cautious about his recovery, though signs now point to a potential return.

As of this writing, the Timberwolves sit as the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference with a 45-29 record. They are just 3 games behind the Los Angeles Lakers for the No. 3 seed, giving them a real opportunity to climb the standings before the regular season ends.

Every game carries importance at this stage, especially with playoff positioning still up for grabs. At the same time, Minnesota remains in a relatively stable position and is not in immediate danger of slipping into the play-in tournament, suggesting there is no need to rush Edwards back before he is fully ready.

His availability will be crucial to the Timberwolves’ playoff hopes, as the team looks to build on back-to-back Conference Finals appearances and make a deeper run this time around.
