‘Finally a Laker!’ — NBA World Reacts to Rumor That Chris Paul Could Join Lakers After Stunning $12.5 Billion Sale

The NBA world reacted to rumors linking retired legend Chris Paul to a Lakers front-office role under new owners.

The LA Lakers are making massive headlines once again after announcing a possible transition to new ownership in a record-shattering $12.5 billion transaction. Mark Walter bought the iconic franchise from the Buss family in 2025 and will soon hand over the reins to venture capitalist Josh Kushner and former Disney CEO Bob Iger.

While this ownership shift has ignited an intense online debate, a major structural change is expected to follow, possibly landing the “Point God” in a front office role in Los Angeles.

NBA World Reacts to Chris Paul Joining LA Lakers Front Office Under New Ownership

Chris Paul officially wrapped up his 21-season NBA career in February 2026 via a social media post.

“This is it! After 21 years, I’m stepping away from basketball,” Paul wrote on Instagram. “Mostly, I’m filled with so much joy and gratitude! While this chapter of being an ‘NBA player’ is done, the game of basketball will forever be ingrained in the DNA of my life.”

Over 1,370 regular-season games, Paul averaged 16.8 points, 9.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game, earning 12 All-Star selections and the 2006 Rookie of the Year award along the way.

Paul’s personal relationship with Iger, who hosted the launch event for Paul’s memoir Sixty One in 2023, is fueling reports of a potential executive post.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Paul could land a role in the Lakers’ front office following the team’s sale to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, given his long-standing relationship with Iger.

The news sent social media into overdrive, with fans delivering mixed reactions.

One fan celebrating the possible pairing tweeted, “Chris Paul finally a Laker!!!!”

Another user, referencing the former NBA commissioner David Stern’s 2011 veto of a trade that could have sent Paul to the Lakers, commented, “David Stern will block this move from his grave.”

One user posted, “Good so Luka and Lakers will be ringless forever now.”

Another user added, “So he still won’t ring Cause Luka will never win a ring, just go to Philly, CP welcome home Brodie.”

“Lakers fans who have been [expletive] about Pelinka about to find out what real pain is if new ownership puts Chris Paul in charge. [expletive]. As I’ve said, grass isn’t always greener on the other side,” wrote a Lakers fan.

Media outlet Sideline Sources praised the idea, writing, “Chris Paul is one of the league’s smartest minds. This would be a GREAT hire.”
