The Toronto Raptors put together one of the most dominant performances in league history at the cost of the Orlando Magic. Their dominant trouncing of their opponents was so impressive that it set the NBA world ablaze.
Toronto Raptors’ Massive Win Over Orlando Magic Ignites the NBA World
Double-digit wins aren’t a rarity in the NBA. Seeing a team win by over 20 or 30 points can happen several times over the course of a season. It becomes rare when that margin of victory creeps even higher, which is exactly what happened in the Raptors vs. Magic game on Sunday.
The Raptors’ outing was nothing short of a display of pure dominance on both ends of the floor. The Magic had no answer to this, which resulted in a 52-point margin when the final buzzer sounded.
Many within the NBA’s circle of analysts and talking heads didn’t waste any time commenting on the game.
“PURE DOMINANCE 😤. The Raptors defeat the Magic by 52 points, the second-largest margin of victory in franchise history 🦖,” Sportsnet’s X account posted.
Sportsnet’s Michael Grange pointed out the same thing while also sharing some stats to highlight the dominance. “Raps over Magic 139-87, 2nd largest margin in team history. Raps tie franchise record w/ 28 forced TOs. [Scottie] Barnes w/ career-high 15 assists (&23 pts). [Brandon] Ingram, [Immanuel] Quickley, & [Collin Murray-Boyles] out. [RJ] Barrett w/ 24, [Sandro Mamukelashvili] 19.”
The Athletic’s Law Murray pointed out that this loss was the first of its kind for the Magic. “The Orland Magic had never lost a game by 50 points in their franchise history until tonight in Toronto,” he said.
Tomer Azarly of Clutch Points said, “Raptors outscored the Magic 112-50 when they went up 56 points, including a 31-0 run in the 1st half.”
The Athletic’s Esfandiar Baraheni highlighted Mamukelashvili specifically for having a huge impact on the win. “Sandro Mamukelashvili was +47 in 21 minutes of action tonight. That’s the 3rd best single game plus-minus in Raptors history.”
Toronto has now won two straight and is 42-32 with eight games left on the schedule. This latest win gives the team a stronger position than the other teams directly competing with it in the standings.
After Sunday’s slate of games, the Raptors have overtaken the Philadelphia 76ers, who are 41-33 and sitting in seventh. The win has also let them tie the Atlanta Hawks (42-33) in wins.
The Raptors haven’t yet secured a guaranteed playoff berth and could still fall into a play-in spot.
However, their win over the Magic has slightly strengthened their push for a spot in the top six of their conference, and they’ve also gathered plenty of momentum for the rest of the season.
