Anthony Davis remains on the sidelines this season while he recovers from a significant injury on his left hand.
It remains a big question mark when it comes to the return timeline for the star big man. Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd provided an update on how Davis has come along in his recovery process.

Jason Kidd’s Update on Anthony Davis’s Injury
Davis is halfway through the 14th season of his NBA career, his second with the Mavericks. When healthy, he shines as one of the best big men in the entire league.
However, injuries have surrounded his stint with the Mavericks. Wearing protective eyewear to save his eyes for the remainder of his professional career, he suffered a calf strain earlier in the season. He returned in December but sustained another injury in January, this time to his left hand.
Davis contemplated surgery on the hand, which could have sidelined him for the rest of the season, but decided against it after getting a second opinion. He will get an evaluation after six weeks of recovery, as Kidd had an update on his star big man during Saturday’s pregame press conference, per reporter Noah Weber.
“He’s working extremely hard, as you mentioned, he’s on the court, and he’s gonna be a dominant right-hand player once he comes back. Just understanding he’s working on his point guard skills…He should be the next one if we don’t have a point guard that he should be labeled as point guard.

“And I’m just joking…He’s putting in the effort to get back, and so it’s great to see your leaders out there working, and once they’re cleared to be able to play, then we’ll put them in uniform,” Kidd said.
Kidd and the Mavericks Await Davis’s Return As They Look To Bounce Back
Kidd and the Mavericks will hope that Davis continues to make strides in his recovery from the left-hand injury.
Dallas has done well in the 20 games Davis has played in, going 10-10 in his appearances. He is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game. He is shooting 50.6% from the field, including 27% from beyond the arc, and 72.8% from the free-throw line.
Dallas has a 19-27 record so far this season, sitting in 12th place in the Western Conference standings. They lead over the Utah Jazz by four games and the Sacramento Kings by seven games. However, they are behind the Memphis Grizzlies by 0.5 games and the Los Angeles Clippers by two games.
Seeing their four-game win streak end after losing to the Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 24, the Mavericks will look to bounce back. They are on the road when they face the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. ET.
