NFL fans are demanding answers from the media after a video montage capturing multiple media personalities visibly struggling or outright refusing to address the Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel scandal went viral. Since then, it has sparked a heated conversation about a double standard in journalism.
Lack of Media Attention on the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini Scandal Raises Questions
Toy Farmer, host of the “Last Man Standing” podcast, posted the montage on X with a pointed caption. He compared the media’s response to coverage of other high-profile controversies.
He wrote, “A montage of people in the media being awkward about covering the Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini story. Compare this to coverage of the Coldplay couple, Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson, Ime Udoka, Rex Ryan, and Sherrone Moore. What is going on?”
The clip itself features various broadcasters fumbling through the topic. Chris Simms’ voice in the clip said, “My friends in the coaching world, even their wives are involved in the conversation as well.” Mike Florio abrupted him and said, “Stay on target.”

Another part in the montage featured a segment from ESPN’s “First Take,” in which host Shae Cornette said, “We didn’t want to talk about this on this show,” to which Stephen A. Smith replied, “Not at all,”, and then Cornette concluded with, “So we have to sit here and talk about it.”
One media figure in the clip acknowledged a personal connection to Vrabel, saying, “I work with Mike during the football season and multiple times in the offseason… I know Mike’s wife. She’s been in some of the meetings. I know Mike’s two sons.”
Another clip featured Dan Le Batard, who admitted discomfort with the public scrutiny, adding, “Everybody’s asking me about Diana Russini, wanting me to say something about Diana Russini. And I’m like really uncomfortable with all of this and sort of the dirtiness of what my profession has become.”
The NFL world did not hold back in responding to the clip. One user wrote, “Journalists need to be stripped from all of their titles… disgusting the moral high ground they’re all pretending to stand on now.”

Another person added, “It’s truly something…they all knew and don’t want to admit it…Plus there is other inappropriate press relationships they do not want exposed…circle the wagons…”
“The difference in tone over the 2 situations is striking. Coldplay situation was regarded as fodder for jokes from the jump. Vrabel/Russini is talked about like something tragic happened. I think there are still things that will be brought to light soon that might explain why,” a user noted on X.
Another person was blunt, simply stating, “This coverage is garbage.” One user responded with a GIF captioned “Cowards, all of them,” summing up a sentiment that appears widespread among viewers watching the situation unfold online.
The contrast between how this story has been handled and how others have been handled continues to drive frustration.
While scandals involving other coaches and media figures were openly mocked and dissected across broadcast segments and social media, the Russini-Vrabel situation appears to be receiving a noticeably quieter, more cautious treatment from the same press corps.
