Mike Vrabel Preaches Inclusivity After TreVeyon Henderson’s Support for Jaden Ivey

Mike Vrabel addresses TreVeyon Henderson's controversial post, balancing the RB's faith with Patriots' inclusivity goals.

It was a tremendous 2025 campaign for New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, who guided the team to its first Super Bowl appearance since 2018. That previous run came with franchise legend Tom Brady at the helm.

Mike Vrabel Discusses Team Inclusivity and TreVeyon Henderson’s Support of Jaden Ivey

While talented players have certainly helped Vrabel’s success with the team, his ability to foster an inclusive culture within the organization has allowed players to be themselves. This is a point that he reiterated in a recent interview regarding promising young running back TreVeyon Henderson.

Former Chicago Bulls guard Jaden Ivey has sent the sporting world into a frenzy this week after he was released by the team following controversial social media comments. The 24-year-old made anti-LGBTQ comments during videos posted to his Instagram account, calling out the NBA for promoting Pride Month celebrations.

The polarizing videos have seen people on both sides of the argument condemn Ivey’s words or support him for standing up for his faith. One such supporter is Henderson, who shared his own message on social media, posting, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10.”

When asked in an interview about Henderson’s support for Ivey, Vrabel had nothing but love for his player and the man he is, while also sharing the desire for the organization to be as safe and inclusive as possible.

Every organization faces unique challenges when balancing personal beliefs with team culture. For the Patriots, the focus remains on education and maintaining a locker room where every individual feels respected, regardless of their background or public statements.

“I love TreVeyon. I love the person. He cares deeply about the team. He cares deeply about his faith,” Vrabel said of his star running back. “I want them to be able to express what they believe in their heart and in their mind, but I also wanna make sure that they’re educated. We want to be inclusive,” he added.

It will be interesting to see how teams continue to handle situations like Ivey’s and Henderson’s, especially given that athletes are increasingly active on social media.

The ongoing challenges of inclusivity in sports might not have a perfect answer. However, remaining open-minded and supportive of teammates, much like Vrabel’s response to Henderson’s post, might be the best route to handling these issues within an organization.
