‘You A Wild Bull Too’ — Ex-NFL LB Warns Mike Vrabel Has Lost ‘Authority’ To Discipline Patriots Players

Emmanuel Acho argues that Mike Vrabel has lost his moral authority to hold New England Patriots players accountable off the field.

Mike Vrabel is dealing with the fallout of an alleged cheating scandal that goes beyond his personal life. Now, a former NFL Linebacker is raising questions about whether he can still command the locker room.

While discussing the situation on his show “Speakeasy,” Emmanuel Acho argued that Vrabel has lost the moral standing to discipline his players off the field following the scandal.

Emmanuel Acho Talks About the Mike Vrabel Scandal Concerning the Patriots

Acho made his position clear during a back-and-forth with T.J. Houshmandzadeh. “Vrabel can no longer tell his players with authority how to conduct themselves off the field,” Acho said. “I wish he would.”

Houshmandzadeh pushed back. He insisted Vrabel still can. But Acho wasn’t convinced, firing back with a pointed hypothetical. “How are you going to tell me to stay in on Friday night?” he asked.

Acho clarified that his concern goes deeper than curfews. He explained that coaches typically ask players to “represent yourself in a way that isn’t going to make the franchise look bad.” And it is harder to enforce when the coach is himself at the center of controversy.

“You can’t discipline me when I know you a wild bull too,” Acho said plainly. That line cut to the heart of his argument. It’s about credibility in leadership. On top of that, it depends on personal conduct, and Vrabel’s conduct has been publicly questioned.

Houshmandzadeh, however, offered Vrabel a potential way forward. “I think you can always frame it as y’all going, my mistake is y’all mistake,” he said, suggesting Vrabel could lean into shared accountability with his players rather than top-down authority.

Vrabel addressed the situation at a press conference on Thursday before the NFL Draft. He acknowledged that his “previous actions don’t meet the standard that I hold myself to” and admitted he has become a distraction to his family, his players, the Patriots organization, and their fans.

The Patriots head coach also said, “My family needs me this weekend, and that’s where I’ll be.”

The scandal involves Vrabel and former Athletic journalist Dianna Russini, with photos of the two together surfacing publicly, including images of them at a bar and at a casino.

Some of those photos trace back to his time with the Tennessee Titans. Vrabel avoided specifics about the relationship during the press conference.

Before the off-field noise, the Patriots had a strong 2025 season on that front. According to the PFSN Offense Impact, New England ranked second in the league with an offensive impact score of 86.6 under Vrabel’s leadership.

It shows the team performed well where it counted on the field.

But as Acho’s argument highlights, football results and personal authority are distinct. The locker room dynamic heading into the next season could be shaped just as much by how Vrabel handles this moment as by any scheme or draft pick.
