While Michael Pittman Jr. wasn’t expected to play anywhere but in Indianapolis as the team put the franchise tag on him, it looks like his future beyond 2024 has been secured as well. The Colts understood how important the young wide receiver was to their future and made sure to lock him up with a new contract.
It’s a big move for both the team and the player, and we take a look at the star wide receiver’s new contract and all the details that keep the playmaker in Indy for the foreseeable future.
Michael Pittman Jr.’s Contract Details
The new deal was first reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, with the insider stating, “The Colts and standout WR Michael Pittman Jr are expected to finalize a deal to keep him in Indy and no longer on the franchise tag deadline, sources say. The deal could be done today — a major win for both sides.”
From there, Bleacher Reports’ Jordan Schultz provided the details of the deal that keeps the star wide receiver in the fold for the Colts offense for years to come.
“BREAKING: The #Colts and star WR Michael Pittman Jr. have agreed to a 3-year deal worth up to $71.5M with $46M guaranteed, sources tell @BleacherReport One of the NFL’s top young wideouts is secure long-term in Indy.”
Schultz reports that Pittman is getting a massive $71.5 million over three years, guaranteeing the pass catcher $46 million over the life of the contract.
It’s a win-win situation for both the player and the team as the Colts keep a rising star in the fold, and Pittman gets the financial security that he was hoping for and gets to stay where he is comfortable and is building a life.
Pittman is fresh off of a 2023 season where he had 109 receptions, 1,152 receiving yards, and four touchdowns on the season. It was his second season in his young career with over 1,000 receiving yards and the third consecutive year with at least 80 receptions.
