The Dallas Cowboys have finally done it. They’ve agreed to a contract extension. After months of speculation, a deal has finally been made. Unfortunately for all Micah Parsons fans, it just isn’t the one everyone has been anticipating from the franchise. While the Parsons situation remains uncertain, the Cowboys are continuing to make moves to improve on the offensive side of the football.
Their latest move was securing another weapon for Dak Prescott in the long term. Immediately after news broke, Parsons, who’s relationship with Dallas might be as strained as it has ever been, sent forward a message to his teammate.
Micah Parsons Celebrating Dallas Cowboys Teammate’s Success
A fourth-round pick in 2022, Jake Ferguson has quietly grown in his role with the Cowboys. After an extremely slow start to his career, he exploded onto the scene in 2023, finishing the year with 761 yards and five touchdowns.
As a result, he earned the first Pro Bowl selection of his career. Last year, with Prescott injuring himself midway through the air, Ferguson’s numbers took a slight dip, as he ended up with just 494 yards in 14 games played.
But, Dallas is hoping for a bounce-back year from their ascending tight end, especially with Prescott back to full health. As a result, owner and general manager Jerry Jones extended a four-year deal worth $52 million, as Ian Rapoport reported on X.
“The #Cowboys and standout TE Jake Ferguson have agreed to terms on a 4-year extension worth $52M in new money with $30M total guaranteed. The deal was done by agent Jack Bechta (@jackbechta). Ferguson gets a $12M signing bonus. Dallas takes care of a young star.”

Soon after, Parsons took to his Instagram account to congratulate the youngster. Calling him “baby lion,” he also added a few lion emojis to the message, as he clearly looked impressed by his teammate’s new contract.

But, of course, the story of the message is the contract Parsons himself hasn’t gotten yet. One of the most productive edge rushers and among the best defenders in the league, the Cowboys bringing back the four-time Pro Bowler as the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history felt like an inevitability.
However, just like with Prescott last season, Dallas has dragged the situation for far too long. Moroever, Jones also made a grevious misstep of taking a shot at Parsons that immediately led to fans hijacking his training camp speech.
Suddenly, an inevitability has turned into a messy, complicated situation. At this point, the fan base has to hope that news of Parsons getting a new contract comes sooner rather than later.
But if his latest activity is any indication, at least the superstar defender is still willing to show solidarity with the organization and its players.
