The contract standoff between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys shows no sign of ending. With the season approaching and neither side giving in, the situation has grown more unstable. Parsons is unhappy, Jerry Jones appears unbothered, and progress remains stalled.
Recent comments from the Cowboys’ owner and general manager about negotiations have reignited debate over the team’s stance. Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, disputed the remarks Jones attributed to him, firmly denying he ever said them.
David Mulugheta Denies Jerry Jones’ Comments About the Way He Handled Negotiations
What once seemed like a guaranteed extension, at least to fans, now feels like a distant hope. The relationship between Parsons and the Cowboys appears strained beyond repair. Unless one side compromises, Dallas’s only resolution would be to cut or trade Parsons, something Jones has dismissed.
Part of the problem is that Jones and Mulugheta are not currently engaged in extension talks, and their relationship appears more fractured than that between the team and Parsons. During a recent appearance with Michael Irvin, Jones said he tried to negotiate with Mulugheta, only to be told to “stick it up your a**.”
This clip of Jerry Jones explaining the Micah Parsons situation is worth your time:
– Offered him the most guaranteed money of any defensive player in NFL history (confirming a @startelegram report from Aug. 3)
– Implies that he is prepared to tag him in ‘26 & ‘27

That remark drew widespread attention. Why would the agent of one of the NFL’s brightest stars refuse to negotiate when it could benefit his client? Jones’s account was quickly challenged. Former player Ryan Clark said he contacted Mulugheta for clarification.
According to Clark, Mulugheta denied ever making the comment and said Jones’s story was false.

“I just hit David Mulugheta and I simply asked him, ‘Did you tell Jerry Jones to stick the contract up his a**’? Because I was like, ain’t no way. And he laughed and he said, ‘I’ve never used that phrase in my life.’ So for anybody who was reporting that from Jerry Jones saying that, this is false. This never happened,” Clark said.
The situation further escalates an already tense standoff. With no way to verify who is telling the truth, it remains one man’s word against another’s while the impasse between one of the NFL’s top defenders and the league’s most valuable franchise drags on.
Jones has said he is comfortable with his position and even floated the possibility of placing the franchise tag on Parsons for two years if no deal is reached. That would be a worst-case scenario for Parsons, who has made it clear he no longer wants to remain in Dallas.
More recently, Parsons removed all references to the Cowboys from his X account following Jones’ comments. With the season approaching, this saga looks far from finished.
